I have a nephew who is going down to California for a paintball tournament soon and I am totally sending him this link.

That thing is awesome.

If I ever won the lottery, I would totally blow some of it on fully equipping a squad of 10 guys with some of those heavy weapons.

...maybe some paintball grenade launchers too....

Old times, playing paintball before they overcrowded the playing fields (no ambushes, no stealthy flanking with loads of players)
I did get an idea of what it was like being targeted by a "machine gun"   this dude on our team decided to rush a dude with
an Uzi replica..   He got four welts on his torso in close proximity for his troubles.  This was back when they allowed 300 FPS power.

The best time I ever had on the field was with  2 x 10 shot pistols ( one for each hand.)  with  15 people per side,  and a wooded  field of about 150 yds square.     My best was a 7 kill day, no welts on me.

Well, if *I* win the lottery, I'm putting 6 of those in a P-51 and strafe the shiat outa you!

... maybe drop a couple of 500 pound paintball bombs too ....

I've seen this thing in action. It's quite a sight.

I really want to get back into playing. My 98 Custom, Pro Lite and ICD 04 BKO are just collecting dust.

The problem with paintball, and airsoft, is that you can't restrict anything or everyone will complain, not show up, or generally ruin your show or just be a problem until you're tired of it, you imagine having a bunch of awesome heavy weapon teams, moving and having arcs of fire, covering retreats, laying down suppressing fire, ect.
What actually happens is even tuned up the guns shoot so-so and someone with a lot less care for having fun zots you from out of your range with a smaller, lighter gun with a magazine nearly as large or larger than your big machinegun one.

Restrict further, and no one shows up, try and reduce power to more reasonable levels so you can differenciate roles, no one shows up, really anywhere that does anything besides "do anything you want at .01joules less than our insurance says is the maximium we can let you shoot" fails pretty quickly.

There are rare examples of larger games with restrictions, but they are few and far between, and usually filled with a different kind of "milsim" douche who dont understand that its just silly game with toy guns not a contest to how many kids you can dump on in an afternoon.

as admiral_rift said, the games were dramatically before all the technology came in, really the worse weapons you get, the longer everyone lives, and the more fun the game is overall, nowadays its all people who bunker up at maximum range they can and dump ammo at eachother, which i guess is great for the field owners selling the ammo, but I miss crawling around in mud and running for cover against rounds that you could pretty much matrix-dodge if you saw the shooter, it was ridiculous and it was fun as hell.

now, I dont know, its all fat kids wanting to play call of duty in real life, if call of duty was sitting around in cover and just spraying at everything

//best game was 38v4 sniper hunt, 3 of my teammates lost in the first engagement, about 2 hours later they gave up with ~5 people left

I dunno where you've been playing but it's still the crazy fun shiat you remember. Yeah, you'll have the guys that overpower and shoot you point blank just because they're assholes, but the refs tend to take care of them quickly.

that depends a lot on the field

i played a lot of deep woods ball in oklahoma before moving to germany, and in europe it's a lot more speedball focused (because of environmental laws from back when paintballs were basically filled with house paint). the few decent woods fields i could find were barely 'woods', but they were woods enough such that you could adapt and shoot the shiat out of people who are too busy dumping ammo to watch their flanks

I tried to get into paintball, but some (most) of those guys take it waaaaay too seriously.  I couldn't even do a grand death scene after I got hit and insist my buddies go on without me.  I only got, "shut the f*ck up"

I second the notion that it's more fun when you play with 10-shot, 12-gram powered pistols.

[CUE ROCK MUSIC INTRO]

Here's to you, Mister Thread Stoker.  While the rest of us would be content with a polite and organized discussion that sticks to the facts, you go out of your way to add a little flavor and stir up the coals of conflict.

SINGER:  Your mom's a whore!

Without you, we'd get a lot more done, but we wouldn't enjoy it nearly as much.  You're the jalapeno on our pizza, noble agent provocateur.

SINGER:  Ow, it burns!

So the next time you sit down in front of that self-built PC, brush aside your hentai magazines and get down to work agitating your fellow man like a government mole at an open carry rally, crack open an ice-cold Budweiser, the King of Beers and raise a toast to mankind's basest natures.  Because heaven knows we've stirred up our share of trouble ourselves. Thanks, Mister Thread Stoker, for keeping the interest, and the post count, higher than an angry English major biatching about bad service on Yelp.

Dont want to sound like a dork but is that legal with the screens on it?  Doesn't seem fair as the people inside can't get hit.   Just wondering

Usually at games that have "tanks", which is what the Hell Hound would classify as, like at the above mentioned Oklahoma D-Day, they have some sort of kill box that if you can hit it will temporarily disable the tank. The netting is there for the occupants safety as they are usually shot to hell.

D-Day Tank Rules PDF Warning

I haven't played there since 2005 tho.

Phantom ftw. Automag as well for that matter.

As someone who is sending his automat rt into agd to get it worked on, I'm getting a kick.

Need to get my 45 grip air Connection on my phantom setup. Vert air sucks.

I take my phantom out against angles or dms or timmys or ions or,whatever new fangled markers the kids carry now.

Awesome.  I still have my old Automag (direct feed (right), pure energy reg to a 45 degree drop back, 1 star valve (sub 15k serial number, it's that old, and clipped reactive trigger.)  I haven't used it in about 10 years at this point, need to go out and get a new o-ring kit and clean/lube it.  Feeling the need to play now...

2014-07-23 04:53:41 PM
Still have my Panther and SL-68II.  My brother plays tournaments with some of his friends but I haven't been on the field in forever.  They had a new gun (no idea what type) with a ramping board out last week when I was around and I just don't get that play style.  Pull the trigger I think 3 times to trip the computer board to fire a 15-round burst which can be extended indefinitely as long as there's ammo in the hopper.  It's like a paint laser.

Back when I played scenarios someone built an emplaced machine gun out of an ammo can with 2 semi-auto markers in it and a crank that would hit each trigger in sequence.  It was at the top of steep hill and one of the objectives to take and hold.  That assault was a biatch.

Not that there's anyone in the thread anymore...
