Another bold move for diversity! Wait, what, it's a sitcom?

Oh.

Zzzzzz....

Much like 90% of all cable channels, OUTtv only exists because it's lumped in a tv package with a channel people actually watch. Not that I have anything against the premise, it just seems they're on a very selective channel targeting a very small market.

Probably still better than any storage/amish/fisherman/duck calling/18 kid shows out already.

So the only way nowadays for people to start accepting the acceptance of the existence and plight of transgender people is to make us laugh at them through the form of a tired TV cliche? You'd think we'd have learned from Will and Grace. Or Ellen. Or Maude. Or Three's Company. Or Amen.

Bosom Buddies was cross dressing, not transgender.

Closer would be Soap. While he didn't complete the procedure, Jody was in line for a sex change.

No.  Anyone who who is anti-gay will ajmost certainly be transgender too and they won't watch it.  Some of them might get mad about it and rant about it on the internet, but no acceptance will come of it.

I hope they have a very special episode about the dick lopping

She actually seems to cover many things, including possibly that, on her Youtube channel.

/that is, if you can last more than five seconds past her "Hello, sunshine sparklefaces!" greeting.

If you want to get very technical, I think the girl from 3rd Rock from the Sun was a male alien that had been given a female body. Or maybe they were genderless aliens, which would make it an even bigger technicality.

Will they have an ep about how she falls for a guy but she is a power top and so is he?

I always assumed that Endora in Bewitched was a pre-op transgendered person, and now you're telling me that was wrong?

I dream of Jeannie, of course, was a transparent metaphor about a closeted gay man: a buttoned-down bachelor with a secret he has to keep "bottled up" because the military wouldn't understand, and the embarrassing cover-ups whenever it slips out. It's like they were hardly even trying.

You read way too much into that show.

The invaders did that before she killed them.

It's far from perfect, but imho it will help people who are clueless wrap their minds around it - the shows you listed actually did that.

And tho it also was a sitcom, All in the Family opened the door for openly discussing race and bigotry.

You have to start somewhere. You have to start slowly. I'm just so impressed that they are using actors who ARE transgender, that's a big step forward.

I thought they canceled Jack's Out TV. Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Acceptance isn't about getting fringe bigots to 'accept' trans folk, it is about society as a whole. The fact Trans folks are using the 'gay blueprint' of exposure to advance real acceptance makes complete sense. I think you're missing the point.

Plus, Bosom Buddies barely counts as a sitcom.  Sitcoms are supposed to be funny.

Are you kidding? Endora was a harlot, always meeting up with different men. Lots of times she wasn't available when Samantha needed her because of that.

Once they got away from the original "how long can they hide their true identities?", the show took off.

Loved the one where they ended up in Monte Carlo.

Actually, I know a lot of people that watch LOGO, gay and straight alike.  RuPaul's Drag Race really helped push it into the more mainstream.

How about Orange is the New Black then? There's an inmate who is transgendered and actually played by a transgendered actor. I don't usually like sitcoms, but that show is freaking hilarious.

That would be a crossdresser, not somebody who is transgendered.  These are examples of people who are transgendered:
