Herbalife is a scam.

It's great if you got in early, but for the newbs, it's a loss, just like Amway, Cutco, and any of those other multi-level marketing schemes.

You mean recruiting your own competition within a relatively small footprint does not lead to long term profits?

"This will be the most important presentation that I have made in my career," said Ackman, whose Pershing Square hedge fund is massively shorting Herbalife's stock.

Well, I guess it's not insider trading when you're farking them over right out in public.  But still, is this legal?  Kind of a reverse pump-and-dump.

Yup.

Cutco knives are pretty fuggin' good, though. Any new ones I get will be direct from the company -- don't want to give false hope to those at the bottom of the pyramid, but still want the quality. That "Forever Guarantee" is no joke.

Seriously, I sent in our knives for sharpening last year. Two of them were deemed too far gone (already sharpened multiple times), and replaced for free, no questions asked.

I'm really torn, because they make such a good product with good service, but have such an evil marketing strategy....

/Also, I need steak knives. =P

I don't care about their products, but their "employees" see annoyingly rude and leave lively surprises behind in the parking lot when they pick up their product.

Maybe they'll close and we can get that space for additional offices

I can't quite discern how one would do that.

I remember that there was a family living a few streets over from the subdivision I grew up in who sold Herbalife products. This was about 30 years ago. Even back then everyone talked about what a scam it was. I'm shocked that it's still in existence today.

As one of those low men at the bottom that was flat out told to lie to people when I ran out of leads, yeah, they are despicable.

//Desperation sucks

He's just talking his book. He's not necessarily covering his short when the stock goes down like it did on Monday, but that's because he's got the margin to hold his short position and see his thesis through to the end.

Besides, just because it's legal doesn't mean it'll actually work when you make your presentation, as a glance at today's chart of HLF (which closed up 25% from yesterday's close) will tell you.

I loathe MLM scams and would like to see him win here, but Ackman overhyped his talk and failed to deliver the promised knockout blow this morning. Anybody who shorted late Monday got squeezed hard today. That's the risk you take chasing a stock up or down into a binary event: it might not go the way you think it will, at least not right away. There are few, if any, one-way bets.

Nice take down there Bill. HLF up 25% at the close. Hope no Farkers have their retirement in Pershing Square. Their original short position still isn't in the money. So, double down. Brilliant!

Yah I can't tell who is the bigger douche. Herbalife or the guy that is manipulating the stock to short it for billions.

While I agree with your sentiment that isn't true of Bill. He sees a scam that pisses him off as it exploits poor people. I'm not trying to make him out to be Jesus but he is doing a good thing.

Course I think Amway was a scam when I heard about it 25 years ago and it is still going strong. Well the business is and the execs at least.

Hedge fund vs pyramid scheme, not sure who to be happy for.

Ackman's presentation yesterday must've floundered because Herbalife's share price closed up almost 25%.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's playing both sides of the court here.
