Exactly.

But their toy department really drug their feet embracing the show.

This is just legitimizing something that was already in progress.

They did a pretty good opera. I mean, not just for a cartoon, but pretty good for opera. The show is better written than any cartoons of the 70s or 80s, has incredibly well developed characters, and a great style of moralism that Aesop would applaud. If you are going to watch something, watch something with depth. It's at a far end of complexity from Dora the Explorer or American Idol, and the depth that you can appreciate as an adult makes the show better for the child who sees it a dozen times.

As far as collectibles, I don't own one atom. I collect nothing made to be collected. Except a few pieces of folk art, like a Higgenbotham carving (which I had to move a signed Alan Bean "Apollo" to check the name on).

MLP is one of the many cartoons written for the adults that will have to watch it with their children, but with enough bright colors and slap stick to keep the kids happy.

It's basically this generations Animaniacs minus the wheel of morality and Mr. Skull Head.

This comment from the article sums up it pretty nicely:

Let's see...

-- There are no penises in any of the designs.

-- Penises are not mentioned anywhere on the site.

-- Yet, the author felt compelled to not only mention penises, but to put the word prominently in the headline.

I strongly suspect the problem with penises here lie not in the service, but with the author's obvious unhealthy obsession with them.

IMHO, Hasbro's 'Official' merch has looked like 2nd rate knock-off crap since day 1. Go to any Brony-con and the fan made plushies look like they stepped off the screen(the Traveling Pony Museum had a perfect fan made Crackle). At the con in Baltimore last year someone had made the Mane 6 as plushies that were 8 to 9 hands tall and looked like they stepped off a giant screen.

For being a toy maker, they sure don't do a very good job with the toys.

It deals with sex, drugs, violence, espionage, greed, envy, lust, politics, philosophy, literature, and sex. Mostly sex.

That's what I always think. I don't watch the show, or have any interest in MLP, but I find these threads amusing for the people who come in to tell everyone to stop liking what they don't like. So some people like to watch a show about ponies, if that gets you all frothy and makes you think it's "making America weaker!!!!111!!", you're probably an idiot who needs to re-evaluate your priorities.

2014-07-22 10:56:10 AM
Well, it seems clear that we're headed down the old "stop liking what I don't like" thread jack.

It always amuses me how much irritation is reserved for people who enjoy entertainment designed for kids, yet none of it is ever targeted at people who enjoy superhero movies and shows. They're just as fantastical and childish, but since they rely primarily on violence, they're ironically seen as more"mature," despite the inherent immaturity in resorting to physical coercion to accomplish a goal. There's an interestingly sexist element where boy's entertainment is more socially acceptable to adults than those for girls.

/it's fine to not care for the show, but I tire of the endless waves of people who have an unhealthy obsession with tying the enjoyment of a television show to some moral or social failing
//and if you disapprove so much, why spend time in threads about it unless you get off on belittling other people?
