Is this one of those things where you Brits take a word (in this case, "suspenders") and make it mean something completely different in your passive aggressive rage over us kicking your ass and becoming independent? Because, here in America, "suspenders" are used to hold up one's pants (I believe you call them "trousers," which is just silly).

You mean the "defeat" you delivered to them while they were at war with France and Spain? Just a very small, trifling detail that's left out of American text books. Just a small one.

"Suspenders" in the US are called "braces" in the UK, IIRC.

Then what do they call braces?  You know, the apparatus that keeps teeth straight..... oh, wait.  I think we just found the hole in the sliding puzzle.

I'm saying they didn't give a shiat about an expensive low tax generating colony, that was becoming progressively more expensive as the years went on. America didn't have massive navies that threatened British waters the same way the Spanish did. The British Empire was preoccupied with most of their naval and wartime assets elsewhere then America. That "massive" ass kicking wasn't that big of an ass kicking.

"Suspenders" in the UK are called "garters" in the US - Again, this is if I recall correctly.

And what the US calls "braces", the UK calls... uh... nothing really. They don't have any grasp of the concept.

it was clearly better to let us off the hook so we could build a massive industrial/military base that we could use to save their asses in 1918 and 1941-45

That's what I was wondering. Thanks.

It should be a crime against fashion if you are holding up stockings with over-the-shoulder suspenders.

You kind of back-stabbed them when they were fighting a much more powerful and dangerous foes, and kept shouting "nyaaah nyaaaah!" until they've decided that they don't have time and money to waste on you, so off you go, like, totally independent and shiat.

It worked out splendidly for both of you and them, by the way, and even for France. So... everyone is a winner?

I don't deny that. America contributed enormously the the defense of the British and allies during the first and Second World War. Both times they were able to change the tides of battle. One could argue there wouldn't be a UK with out the Americans.

2002 Dodge Ram, 1500...

Greatest vehicle I've ever owned.
It's a small house on wheels...a break room in the parking garage.
It's a place to eat and nap at lunch. A place to smoke what I wanna with no one able to see or smell.
I LOVE MY VAN!

The USA did not defeat the British.

The British colonial peasants were revolting, and it all went downhill from there. THEN came the USA.
