Everyone else in the east decides to follow Philly's lead and tank the season?

2014-07-21 09:54:51 AM
They still play in the East, right?

Are there really 8 teams that are, without a doubt, going to be better than the Knicks? The freakin' Hawks made the playoffs.

2014-07-21 10:22:40 AM
That's simple. Heat and Brooklyn miss the playoffs and the Cavs and Knicks replace them. The only real issue is that the Heat may not get bad enough to miss the playoffs. More likely, Heat and Knicks battle for the 8th seed

Because the east is weak and any team with with 5 players with a pulse has a chance?

My way-too-early predictions:

IN FOR SURE: Bulls, Cavs, Wizards, Pacers, Raptors
ALMOST CERTAINLY IN: Hornets, Heat
MIDDLE OF THE PACK: Knicks, Bucks, Nets, Hawks,
ALMOST CERTAINLY OUT: Celtics, Pistons, Magic
CANDIDATE FOR RELEGATION TO THE A-10: Sixers

Put Bucks in the Almost Certainly out pack. Greek Freak and Parker are our only options

Nets are out of it too. Maybe bump them down to the Sixer's level

Yeah, they logically definitely lean towards no, but I have an irrational feeling that they could be a pleasant surprise this year.

With Raymond Felton gone, the Knicks will make the playoffs. He flat out sucked, he was a distraction with his off the court antics, good riddance.

With Carmelo Anthony back, the Knicks won't make it past the 2nd round, unless Carmelo magically learns how to play defense and pass the ball to open teammates.

The Horncats and Heat are looking better to me than the Raptors, and I love the Raps. I will bet though that the teams in your first 2 lists plus the Hawks are going to be making the playoffs in the East. The Knicks, Nets, and Pistons will be fighting for 8th.

Winning 35-40 games should be enough in that turd of a conference.

The #7 team in the conference was over .500, and the Cavs were #10.  So I can see all of the playoff teams being over .500.

Sixers are still in the East.

Other than that, I agree with you. And, quite frankly, the Sixers would trade players with a pulse for corpses and draft picks if they could.

Nets are probably worse, and who really knows about the Hawks.  And with the Cavs likely to win about 20 more games than they did last year, those losses have to come from somewhere.

Yeah but the Raptors only have to be better than the Knicks, Celts, Nets and Sixers to be the 4 seed.  The Heat and Hornets have to beat a good team the other team, the Wizards, and the Hawks to win their division.

their lack of offense just got more lacking with the Hornets getting Lance.

Also, is this the year Andre Drummond has a breakout year?

I know he isnt a normal PF but he still is a PF and an elite scorer at that.

Hmm, I left the Heat out. The East is going to be fun this year.

1) Impossible.
2) Likely.
3) Improbable.

So, even in the (l)East, I don't think it's too likely they'll do much with the current roster.

/Yes, the East will be better than last year.
//Still far behind the West.

Also, if Brook Lopez is healthy this year the Nets should be in.

Huge if but yeah.

Is there a bigger bust in the NBA than Deron Williams?

Darko?

Kwame?

. . . no?

It's actually almost, sorta, kinda sad. If it wasn't for the last year in Utah.

/I'd have probably wanted to leave Utah, too.
//Not like that, though.

Wtf can't the Knicks make the playoffs? The East has 8 guaranteed playoff teams suddenly? Hell it barely has three sure fire playoff teams in Cleveland Chicago and Indy...and it wouldn't surprise me if Chicago Rosed another season and went in the tank or if Indy missed the playoffs after George chokes out Stephenson in the first Indy/Charlotte game.

More importantly what is the farking deal with all these sports headlines that act like completely reasonable possibilities are the most ridiculous thing Subby has ever heard and only a fool could think them realistic. The Knicks in the playoffs?! Inconceivable!!

It's tired, unoriginal and unfunny. Perfect for Fark, but how about a little effort?

Raps and Wiz are sure fire playoff teams.
Hawks are getting Harrington back.
Hornets should be back in the playoffs but the Lance experiment will be interesting to watch.
Pistons should be much better. Last year was awful.

It is a mishmash after that.

So what are the Knicks going to lean on? Melo? After Melo they've got . . . Calderon spotting up? JR Smith JR Smithing?

Sure, the headline is poking fun in a rather obvious manner, but lets not pretend the Knicks have done much but retain the top player on a terrible team, and swapped a dog shiat PG for a spot up shooter who doesn't turn the ball over.

Aldrich, Brown, Hardaway Jr, Shump, and Prigioni are at least NBA players . . . but man, the cupboards are pretty farking bare.

Which is why this season they can hope to get a top-10 pick, dump bad contracts next offseason, and start with a clean slate with Carmello, Cleanthony, 2015-1st-player, and sign a star or two if they can. They can be a contender in two years time.

Coincidentally, almost all of those extra wins are because of a guy who is leaving another team in the East.  Not to say the Heat will be 20 games worse (though they might), but some of the Cavs' extra wins will be made up by other teams by wins against the Heat.

What's the mathematically lowest number of games you can win in the NBA regular season and still make the playoffs? I think it's 4 games (the 8 worst teams in-conference have 4-0 records against 1 other team in that group in a ring configuration, and loses all games to every other team), does anyone have another answer?
