Would you stand up for that?

Of porch not.

Porch didn't so much collapse as it crumpled.  Of course these things never happened before Obama took office.  Thanks Obama:

I just can't get it. It looks like such a sturdy structure.

Shouldn't they have been injured -as- the porch collapsed, not after?

Though after would have been funnier, if you imagine eight people walking out in a row, each somehow not realizing that the previous one fell to the ground in front of them.

Porches and Decks collapsing are, IIRC, the biggest cause of injuries and deaths due to structural failures in residential buildings.

Wonder if that libertarian Farker from a few months back will be in here; he was opposed to HOAs of course, but he was also biatching about building codes...

Incidents like this are why we have them.

Right.  Because the building codes are clearly working as intended in Chicago, home to both restrictive building codes and the most deadly balcony collapse in US history.  So clearly the solution is more building codes.

As opposed to the libertarian ideal?

No, we have building codes because people think they're better with tools than they actually are, and when kids get hurt, most of our neighbors turn into that "won't someone think of the children?" lady from the Simpsons...
