Haha, that's fantastic.

I'm just speechless that these guys managed to obtain a fully-constructed ramp, but never even  considered the landing.

I think someone was supposed to grab the ramp and move it while he was still in the air so he could land on it.  But they played a trick on him.

The video of Tori from Mythbusters doing the faceplant on asphalt after trying to hop a wagon is more cringe worthy.

I can see neglecting some important way that something can go wrong,

What is stunningly absent here, though, is any possible way for it to go right.

Here's the really screwed up part- there's a path worn in the grass leading up to the ramp. This wasn't the first time it's been used. WTF?

Did he died?

Well if they're anything like myself and my friends when we were younger (Judging by the video that seems to be 100% true) we had set paths we always rode our bikes through the woods and stuff, preferred paths down hills, who's backyard we could cut through etc. and we always set up our ramps in the middle of those paths.

So maybe they did the same? Our results usually ended like the ramp jump scene in Napoleon Dynamite though.

That could have been much worse.

I wonder at what point did he realize that his plan wasn't going to succeed?

As his bicycle started to tip nose-forward while 20 feet off the ground, I wonder if he had the glimmerings of self-awareness to think "Shiat!  I hope I don't die"?  Or was he there thinking "I AM IRONMAN"?

Well, part of his problem is that he stopped pedaling once he was airborne. That's why he tips forward. On the other hand, it may have been more forgiving on his body to slam face-first into the ground than to have the bike seat jammed halfway through his torso with his nuts in between.

Whichever it was, I'll bet that right up until that moment, thee theme from "Chariots of Fire" was playing in his head.

There's a pretty worn track of grass leading up to the ramp. So, I wonder if they used to have a smaller ramp, or if other riders make less of a nose dive and more of a nice landing.

It looks like he might have torn his PCL on landing.

I have done this; only less run, less ramp, more distance, and zero crying afterwards.  I got about that much air because the ramp was a board on a truck tire, which gave a nice spring board effect, and went over a drop off.  I didn't expect the spring board effect, instead I was hoping to ride the drop off down, not clear it by ten yards.

Maybe he was trying to throw himself at the ground and miss.

Smaller ramp, or stack of mattresses at ground zero for the practice runs. There is no way to make a nice landing from that setup.

That ramp goes too vertical. Should be more of a flat, 45 degree angle.

I once did a ramp to a mini trampoline. It ended poorly.

abhorrent1: That ramp goes too vertical. Should be more of a flat, 45 degree angle.

It's a 'vert ramp', designed to maximize height with minimal forward momentum. It sort of inherently assumes you're going to DO something with that height, and rotational momentum (e.g. do a backflip).

The only thing that makes me question the legitimacy of the video is that he manages to roll  forward off the lip, which can certainly be done on a vert ramp, but usually requires someone who knows what they're doing. Someone who has (apparently) never done this before should just be along for the ride, and should keep rotating rear-ward, landing on his head and ass.

I was wondering how, exactly, he defined success.

It's much closer to 45o than vertical. I'd give it 50-60o, tops. Just look at the image in the boobarellies.
