So sad. One of my favorite actors. Grew up loving Rockford files.

Me too, it was my favorite show.
I loved how everything seemed to turn around and bite him in the ass.
Angel and Gandi all those great skeevy characters.
Too bad.

I was watching the Maverick box-set earlier today.  One of the best series.  Ever.

Damn.  But then 86 is a pretty good age.

Heh.. I saw that on cable once or twice.  Thought it was okay, though my standards weren't very high back in the 80s.  I used to rewatch 'Going Ape' a lot..

Everyone else loved Steve McQueen's Hilts the most in The Great Escape. For me Garner's Hendley was way cooler.

*beep* leave a message after the tone

Miss you Jim.

Hell of an actor and seemingly a damn fine gentleman.

Holy shiat... I was just watching him in The Great Escape a little while ago.

(It's incredible that Hendley could get into the tunnel at all, given the size of the big, brass balls he must have been hauling around...)

It just occurred to me.  There should have been an episode where Rockford had to rent a Maverick to drive around in. And then see how many people get the joke.

Technically, his skill was as a re-actor. I understand that he was a joy to work with.

Cant go wrong word Support your Local Sheriff, great fun.
Truly a great loss for American cinema and television.
RIP Mr. Garner.

Great funny western. high school anatomy teacher used to show it before finals every year to remove stress. Garner was a treasure. Loved him in the new maverick, nice touch putting him in as the dad. anyhow, james garner will be missed. great voice, great comedic expressions and timing. I even liked space cowboys or hell, whenever he showed up.

This is the first DVD I ever bought because I enjoyed the movie so much when it first played.  He and James Woods are hilarious in this movie.  I recommend it for any James Garner fan.

Even his commercials were great....especially the Polaroid ones with Hartley.

Everyone else was acting cool, or trying to be cool. Jim Rockford WAS cool.

RIP local gunfighter

(paraphrasing a little here) "$75 million? That's not 'fark you' money, son, that's 'fark EVERYBODY' money!"

great, fun flick.

Wow, an RIP thread without "that guy"? Unpossible!

Must be because James Garner was such a well liked guy as well as a popular actor.

Loved Rockford Files back in the day. Enjoyed his movie work as well particularly SYLS.

RIP Mr. Garner.

I read many years ago that he suffered from debilitating arthritis. Glad his pain has ended at least. And that was him doing the bootlegger 180's in that Firebird

There are very few actors you can say provided a steady stream of warmth, insight, accomplishment, and humor throughout their professional lives.    James Garner is one of those actors.

Rest in peace, Mr. Garner.  You were enjoyed.

I wonder who is going to take care of that parrot that he used to work with?

2014-07-20 09:44:28 AM
D'oh.

I'm learning how to play "Amazing Grace" on guitar, and it always reminds me of Jodie Foster telling him and Mel Gibson that they both sang the same wrong words to that song.

James Garner was a fine actor, and that was one of the best tv-to-screen adaptations ever made.

RIP, classy actor-man

That's a sad one, though he had such a good, long life. And what an under rated actor. I really can't think of a single movie that I saw him him in that he wasn't good, even the movies I personally didn't like, he was always good.
Always thought he'd make a great Bruce Wayne if they ever made a Batman Beyond movie. Both of his takes on Wyatt Earp were pretty good, too.
