Followed shortly by the rhythmic thump of your head against a shower wall as you get anally violated by a giant black dude in some hellhole Texas private prison.

In Texas it's legal to use deadly force in response to property damage at night. It might be legal to run over the guy who smashed your mirror. But it's probably not legal to drive away afterwards.

The tan SUV driver bumped into the pedestrian. The pedestrian biatched-out the driver.  The driver than came back and intentionally hit the pedestrian AGAIN, than drove off.

But if it was a bjcycle cop, it would warrant a shooting. What a country.

You and subby both fail at reading comprehension. The Tahoe driver hit the pedestrian when driving past. When the pedestrian had the nerve to protest, small-dicked Tahoe driver turned back and hit him again.

Yeah I'm gonna have to say it was the driver's fault for bumping the guy with the mirror if the car was in motion, not the other way around. Sounds like he was in a hurry and passed by too close, I've had that happen before, some drivers are just impatient.

Not really. Up here, I most often see women driving Tahoes. it's the illusion of all that metal around you, cradling you, protecting you from the hoi polloi, that really sells the Tahoe - plus, of course, it's been plugged for more than a few years in music videos as the douchebag vehicle du jour, so, you get both male & female douchebags riding in them.

OR, playing the devil's advocate here, it could be that the pedestrians were walking down the middle of the road in the middle of the night and refused to move out of the way of an oncoming vehicle.  The driver managed to make their way past but ended up clipping one of the pedestrians with the side mirror on the car.  The pedestrians, thus offended by the consequences of their jackassish refusal to move out of the way of the car, issued threats and expletives at the driver, at which time the driver decided to turn around and demonstrate again the idiocy of threatening someone in a two ton moving vehicle while standing in the middle of the road.  Doesn't make it right, but it's a lot more understandable than some crazy driver dead set on running over random pedestrians.

However, if I swing a bat and hit your head, it will almost certainly deform my bat to some degree, even if microscopically.  If you hadn't had your head there, the damage would not have occurred to my property.  Thus, you damaged my property and deadly force was required to rectify your attack on my property.

/It's Texas, so the above would be seen as prima facie evidence of the driver's innocense

The story thus far is entirely from the friend of the guy who was injured. It sounds highly unlikely that someone would run you over because they "accidentally bumped you with their mirror". So unlikely, in fact, that I'm willing to bet there's another, vastly different side to this story.

Unfortunately, I live in the state.  And it still seems far more likely that there were two idiots walking down the middle of the road and refusing to move.

I can see that happening, but road rage is real too, so I don't find it that surprising that a driver would try to run someone down. Could be a combination of things for all we know.

Sounds like he was clipped similar to this, but with lesser injuries since he was walking over biking.

CSB: Happens all the time. I used to work with a guy who while driving the work truck drifted a bit and clipped another cars mirror with his mirror. Our mirror swung in on the little hinge, and it looked like it smashed off the other vehicles mirror since they were stopped. Dude kept going like nothing at all had happened and wouldn't acknowledge it when I was like WTF. Happened in Austin, and nothing ever came of it. The boss didn't care when I told him, since his mirror wasn't damaged.

I once saw a bus mirror bean a man as it pulled up to a stop. I do recall they called an ambulance, I wonder how serious it was...

Austin has a lot of asshole drivers-- both native and transplant. You'd think it would be a laid-back place to drive, since that is how they (used to) market the city. But really it's just another rat race,"fark you, get out of my way, I'm in a hurry" city. VERY impatient and intolerant drivers mixed with apathetic and bad drivers.

Note to those moving and living in Austin: "psychotic" is not a synonym for "weird."

I am often bemused when I see pedestrians standing right at the curb when rationality would seem to dictate another choice if self preservation was a consideration.

I also wonder why drivers accelerate hard then brake hard to enter a traffic crush when all that does is limit visibility and void any and all move busting options.

Oblivious works because it is a protected even desirable societal trait with rare ramifications.

or something like that

Back in the day, we'd set our stuff on the curb at the bus stop to mark our place in line so we could play until the bus got there without losing our spot. Why it was important to us to have that sweet spot  in line, I have no idea. So one day the kid who was first bent over to pick up his stuff and stood back up just as the bus got there. He took the mirror to the face.

He was out of school for a long, long time.

This. The pedestrian had to have been in the street unless the driver hopped the curb. Don't walk in the road.

There's a lot of places in the US where there is no sidewalk and I'm not just talking about dirt road middle of nowhere places. I see no sidewalk in the video attached to the article and merely some grass on the side of the road. Here's a fun google maps view:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fulton+St+%26+Salerno+Ln,+Houston, +T X+77076/[nospam-﹫-backwards]92*854383,-95.381863,3a,90y,329h,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sDMWO 9UQrOhgp_AdTr6hWFw!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x8640b81a9482ef37:0x60d85c689f389168 !6m1!1e1

Granted in that case it's on the pedestrian to get off the road if a car is coming (that's why you walk against traffic, to have more time to get out of the way) but I'm assuming these idiots didn't do that.
