Huh.  You'd think that if it was the Ukrainian government that shot it down the rebels would be eager to have impartial observers come and investigate.

That's it! I'm weighing the liver! No, no I'm sorry. I warned you! Now it's too late; I've gone and weighed the liver. See what you made me do?!

It's possible they have covert Russian advisers explaining where bang-hook is.

I was actually sent a picture of the controls and asked, "would you know how to launch a rocket with this?" like that was a good argument. Hell, I probably could hardly fire the AK myself. But with about, oh, any training whatsoever, yeah, I could

The rebels don't want to give up their arms.

.... and legs and hands and whatever other body parts that they have collected from the crash.

2014-07-19 06:52:31 PM
The argument isn't that they couldn't fire a Buk and hit an airliner without Russian advisors. It's that the farking Russians GAVE it to them. Which they did, because obviously.

2014-07-19 06:53:43 PM
I swear, you just follow russia's orders and shoot down a plane, and all of a sudden it's "international outcry" this and "heinous atrocity" that...

2014-07-19 06:53:48 PM
Betting that since the Ukrainian's had been using air power to attack some rebel positions, the Russian's sent in some hardware. If they could bring down an Ukrainian fighter, the rebels would be bolstered. The separatists had already claimed to have taken down a helicopter or two.
Unfortunately, these are not brightest people and they are doing their best "common clay of the land" impersonation....you know....morons.

Farking disgusting. I hope that now that the passenger manifest is out, the victims' credit cards can at least be canceled before these ghouls decide to treat themselves.

2014-07-19 06:54:12 PM
One thing I haven't heard talked about: does the BUK system have an autonomous mode? A mode where it will automatically engage any target that it detects?

I can't help but think that an AA platform would, and how that might have played into the attack.

2014-07-19 06:54:18 PM
It's disgusting to think what the rebels are doing with the dead bodies. Multilating them, taking souvenirs, having sex with them.

Maybe not in the media, but I have personally argued with Russians who said it couldn't be rebels because that Buk system is just too dang hard.

Reports of rebels taking cash out of corpses' wallets is about as self-incriminating as one can get.

2014-07-19 06:56:40 PM
"removing bodies and spiriting away wreckage - including duty free and alcohol"

Look every man has his limits, OK? Put alcohol in front of Russians and an instinctual reactions kick in...kind of of like Drew and beer. You wouldn't hate Drew for stealing your beer, would you? No way, how else can he crash the Fark servers? So it's the same with Russians an alcohol. They can smell booze miles away, six miles away to be exact. In any direction, including straight up.  So if stealing booze is the real reason the plane got shot down I will forgive the Russians. In fact, I applaud them for their self-restraint in not shooting down all the other planes for the booze they contain. But there is only so much temptation a man can take.

I can't wait until the UN comes up with some sort of statement condemning Russia's involvement in this, and then having Russia veto the statement (with China's support)

The UN was never designed or intended to deal with direct confrontations beyond giving both sides a chance to rant at each other.

Besides the EU and the US and NATO will deal with this without the UN getting involved.

Sanctions, they 'are' a biatch.  I wonder how many billions Russia will lose when the next round of sanctions hit.

One thing is for certain, hollywood will eventually make a movie about this. There hasn't been any interesting cold war movies for along time.

At this point, I think these 'rebels' ought to be simply shot the moment they try to impede access to the site of their mass murder.

I'm sure the Ukraine Army has a platoon they can spare to secure the site.

Putin is barely a half-step above Kim Jong-un, and maybe I'm being generous here.  The guy is a psychopath.  Russia is completely to blame here.  There guys were running the Buk.  There's no way rebels with a week of training were.  Our similar systems supposedly take six months training to learn to run.  If it wasn't a Russian finger on the button, it's a Russian to blame for allowing someone else to press it.

The US response has been pathetic.  Sanction a couple oligarchs?  Give me a break.  Let's start by cancelling every Russian's visa.  Yes, that oligarch's daughter at Harvard, nope, can't go there.  You just bought a 100M apartment?  Screw you, you can't use it.  Will some people be unfairly impacted, yes, but it's their f'ing government and go home an fix it.  Putin has brought the world to the edge of WWIII and half-measures by the Obama admin are not going to do anything to deter him.

Well, can you honestly blame them? I mean, look, the liberals have been getting out of hand for years with their namby pamby sippy soft serve form of Justice. It's about time someone bold and burly enough finally stood up to 0bummer. Maybe now the rest of the world will finally see how important this all is. I mean, you can't deny Russian influence forever. Not in the face of Liberty, which is what the Ukranians are desperately seeking.

This is a very ignorant argument. Then again if you could hardly fire an AK-47 without training you are an idiot. My 9 year old could figure it out.

I was being facetious there, tough guy. The point is that there is a pro-russian argument that the system is too hard, so it couldn't possibly be rebels.

NO weapons, *particularly* AA systems, have "autonomous" modes, since firing on anything is a *huge farking deal* that almost always requires authorization from superiors. Autonomous systems like you describe are basically a plot device invented for movies.

Wow

"The Americans played a part in this too, obviously."
"There were 25 Americans onboard the plane."
"Americans are so cruel they would sacrifice their own."

Kind shoots to shiat the right wing talking point that with Obama in charge the rest of the world thinks we are pussies.

I'm actually kind of surprised there hasn't been a Seal team or a European equivalent dropped into the area yet to set up perimeter and secure the area.  Guess they don't really care enough to do that.
