If we nominate Coakley, we deserve a Republican governor.

The answer is that Massachusetts Republicans would be considered Democrats in any red state.

While Massachusetts has a reputation for liberal politics, it had a string of four Republican governors including Mitt Romney, who went on to become the 2012 Republican White House contender, before current Governor Deval Patrick took office.

Gee subby, I don't know.  Maybe Massachusetts isn't the ultra-liberal dystopia you've created in your head.

Speaking as a South Boston resident I can say that there is a huuuuge group of conservatives in the electorate here, it's pretty much kosher to talk about POTUS as the "N*gger in chief" at several of the local watering holes. This should come as a surprise to absolutely no-one who knows MA politics. It is, at once, the most liberal and some of the most diehard racists in the country, living cheek-by-jowl.

Mrbogey: raerae1980: Why would ANYONE vote Republican? Shame in you.

A functioning brain? A memory that exists more than a few years? A fairly decent understanding of politics and history?  A disdain for authoritarian government? Just the top reasons off the top of my head.

Those are the reasons I don't vote Republican. The Bush years pretty much show me why the reasons you list off are full of crap.

Enough about why to vote against the Republicans, why vote for them?

massachusetts has a well established reputation for electing republican governors.  this is only surprising to people who aren't from massachusetts who aren't familiar with the large blue-collar conservative population.

Anybody else notice the new GOP tactic of pretending they are not GOP candidates?
Some asshat is already running TV campaign ads in Minnesota and somehow forgets amid his pile of kids and puppies that he is Republican.
All the farkers coming to my door will only admit GOP connection if you pin them down with the correct questions.

Stupid is as stupid does

For me the main reason to vote against Coakley is still her handling of Gerald Amirault.

TwistedFark: AeAe: LordJiro: TwistedFark: So, what's actually wrong with this Martha chick? Is it just typical Fark hate (tm) for any politician with a vagina, or did she actually do something scorn worthy?

Also - the article makes it look like she doesn't even have the nomination yet, so what gives? Hypothetical matchup or poorly worded article?

Coakley was the dipshiat that gave us Scott Brown, because she assumed that, as a Democrat in Massachusetts, she didn't have to actually, y'know, campaign. Also, she dissed the Red Sox in Massachusetts.

Basically, she's just a dumbass.

A Democrat in Massachusetts that ran a campaign so ineptly that a Republican won. She's a terrible person.

That seems like pretty thin pretence to me, but then again it doesn't take much for the neckbeard squad to get all Outragey McHowlerMonkey over here.

Weird conclusion to draw, given that the people complaining the loudest about the Coakley "chick" are the most likely to get all swoony over Elizabeth Warren. But yeah, you run with that "it must be misogyny" theory, hoss. The fact of the matter is that the woman blew a double-digit lead over Scott Brown, and Scott Brown is a chump. Thankfully, he has since then lost his gig to Warren.

J Noble Daggett: Long ago Martha prosecuted a case I was involved with. My foster daughter accused her father of abusing her. One day, after the trial, I was doing laundry and found a note from my foster daughter that effectively admitted she made up the accusations. It's complicated. He was an ass. But she convicted him and that has diminished my opinion of her.

So you were fooled by your foster daughter's story until you found the note, but you think a complete stranger should have known better?

what_now: lilbjorn: ManateeGag: yeah.  they never had a Republican governor before.  just like that super liberal NJ.  No Republican governors here either.

People who didn't live through it, don't realize that four of the last five governors of Massachusetts have been Republicans.  And the current Democrat seems to be in the pocket of Sheldon Adelson's gambling cohorts (along with Coakley).

Lol. Yeah. We're in bed with Sheldon Adelson. Because the diff'rence Between a gentlemen and a bum, With a capital "B,"
And that rhymes with "P" and that stands for pool!

Calm down. A casino is a great thing for Massachusetts.

There's a fantasy out there that casinos create jobs and generate huge tax revenue. In reality very few people will come from out of state to a MA casino. They may recapture a little revenue from MA residents who won't have to go to CT any more, but most of the revenue will come from residents who would have spent that money in other MA businesses or bought MA lottery tickets. It's a zero sum game where the casino owners win and the local businesses and the state lottery are the losers.

Yeah it was the democrats that created the department of homeland security and authorized the nsa to listen to your phone calls. I remember it starting right after Obama's inauguration in January 2001.

My voter registration card says "No Party Affiliation" now.

For the same reason that anyone would go to the polls to specifically vote Democrat? For the flag under which that ship is sailing. Why else? The platform stopped mattering a long time ago.

Remember when she lost to Scott Brown a few years ago in the Senatorial race? She figured she had it wrapped up and a week before the vote, she had to scramble to slow the tide. Next thing you know, Scott Brown was the Senator. Of course he only lasted one term, but hey...he did it.
