Dick Cheney is a walking DSM-V definition of "sociopath".

It's important to understand that Dick Cheney is not interested in understanding himself; only satiating his thirst for power and/or attention. Asking whether or not this man believes his own lies is like asking whether a rabid wolverine has the capacity to feel remorse for eating its prey.

Neither have the requisite faculties to do so.

Dick Cheney is beyond evil; he's mentally ill.

I think it's more dependent on whether or not believing his lies makes him more money or gains him more power.

There's no getting around the fact that W's 8 years of incompetence WILL go down as one of the darkest periods in American governance. Nixon had supporters at the time of his resignation, but the passage of time ended up turning his name into a form of literary leprosy.

The same thing is going to end up happening to W and the rest of the cretins he surrounded himself with. Time has a way of clearing the fog of dissimulation.

Does anyone find it curious that after Dick Cheney shoots a guy in his neck, that the guy apologizes to Cheney? Shouldn't it be the other way around?

If you're willing to accept that Dick Cheney is a textbook sociopath (plenty of evidence supports this), then you will have to entertain the idea that his emotional growth is stunted.

In other words, he simply enjoys being a controversial asshole and generating press for himself.

I've always wondered had he been killed on the spot by that shot what would have happened next?  Would Cheney have copped to it?  Imagine a sitting VP even accidentally killing someone.

A fact from that little incident that's rarely repeated:

Dick Cheney had been drinking beforehand. Of all the rules that exist for group hunting, there are two that belong in the "cardinal" category:

1. Know where your buddies are.

2. Under NO circumstances, consume alcohol before a hunt.

There are very few people (if any others) I would say this about but.....

We don't know that.

Because Cheney's people barred the local sheriff from access to the property and Cheney for a day or two.

Cheney is appalling. But he is nowhere near as appalling as his apologists.

Imagine being able to shoot a guy in the face, and that guy feels a need to go on national TV to apologize for all the trouble he caused. Very few bloodthirsty sociopathic gangsters ever had that level of geist.

That would have been a talking point then.   Instead of the fact that he indirectly has killed thousands.

"

I'll refrain from comment on the grammar.

Why... why in the hell does EVERYTHING have to be about team sports? It has nothing to do with Dem vs Pub. Cheney is an evil motherfarker who has committed crime upon crime upon crime against humanity and life itself.

Why would any asshole 'thrill' over his failures as a human being? Because it makes your team look better?

That is seriously immature.

I am glad the author pointed out his bias and acknowledged rooting for his team.

As much as I deplore team politics- dick Cheney is one of the main reasons I no longer identify as a republican.

Cheney has indeed been doing a lot of interviews lately. For the most part they have been non-combative. To me this represents a prime example of what is largely broken with American journalism today.

NONE of the interviews have been combative. NONE. I'd expect one or two here and there to at least try to hold his feet to the fire. No one has. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum there's obviously, even if you didn't think so at the time then at least in retrospect, a lot he could be questioned and challenged on.

Yet no one is. The closest we got was that Megyn Kelly interview where she basically asked him one pointed question and then just let him bullshiat unchallenged.

Bullshiat. Sorry, but taken in context with the preceding sentence that you clipped out he's making the opposite point you're claiming he is. He's explicitly acknowledging the damage Cheney has done to America for all Americans, and saying how only from a partisan perspective could you be happy about Dick Cheney's magical fib-story tour because of the damage it does to the GOP brand.

"As an American, I am appalled by Dick Cheney and his relentless, pathetic and ultimately doomed effort to revise the history of his failures."

Which means he had several beers, and probably was at least slightly drunk.

In reality, one beer is close enough to zero beers as to be called zero beers.

I have enormous regard for the men and women of the U.S. military. I had the privilege of working with them for the four years I was the Secretary of Defense. No one has a higher regard than I do for them. It's irresponsible to suggest we shouldn't have this debate, that we should ignore what is a major, major concern. If you have friends and relatives serving in the U.S. military, you know there's a problem. If you look at the data that's available, 40% of our Army helicopters are not combat ready. The combat readiness level in the Air Force dropped from 85% to 65%. Significant problems of retention. The important thing for us to remember is that we're a democracy and we're defended by volunteers. Everybody out there tonight wearing the uniform, standing on guard to protect the United States is there because they volunteered to put on a uniform. When we don't give them the spare parts they need, when we don't give our pilots the flying hours they need to maintain their proficiency, when we don't give them the kind of leadership that spells out what their mission is and let's them know why they're putting their lives at risk, then we undermine that morale. That's an extraordinarily valuable trust. There is no more important responsibility for a President of the United States than his role as Commander in Chief, and the obligation he undertakes on behalf of fall of us when he decides when to send our young men and women to war. When we send them without the right kind of training, when we send them poorly equipped or with equipment that's old and broken down, we put their lives at risk. We will suffer more casualties in the next conflict if we don't look to those basic fundamental problems now.

/I think he was telling the truth in part of that paragraph.  Whether or not he believed it is another story. . .
