"Oh crap! Didn't touch it...."

At least the Sox pulled it out last night. 5 outta the last 6 and still a looooong way to go just to make it to the Wild Card.

And it might have kept Infante from scoring, so it's not like she cost them anything.  Which is good, because the last thing baseball needs is another Buckner/Bartman situation leveled at a kid.

Huh. Bunkosquad and I were there last night, and he made the same point- she probably saved a run. The crowd was... Weird...after that. No one wants to boo a teenage girl, but...

This has happened a few times this year... do ball boys and ball girls all need remedial "don't touch a fair ball, dumbass" courses?

If it was Philly they would have booed her to hell and back

If she can, the Sox should get her to Pawtucket quickly.

This incident is funnier/more tragic. A Kansas City ballboy fields a fair ball. Realizes his mistake. But the next time when a legitimate foul ball is hit to him, the kid refuses to make a play on it at all.

Girls' league of course, but she's definitely a baller.  That ball was shrieking right toward her probably at a good 80mph and she fielded it cleanly.  More notably, her instinct was to field it, not get out of the way.

Not only was it pretty slick fielding, WTF else is she supposed to do?  That thing had a nasty sidespin on it; if she dodged it and failed she might've gotten hurt.

She got up from her seat to move into position to get the ball. First off she wasn't paying attention to game game to see it was called fair, and she ignored the cardinal rule for ball boys/girls, if it is close let it go. If you ever watch a game they always let those go, then if it is foul they will chase it down.

It would only have been a 'Buckner situation' if the ball had trickled between her legs.

FTA:  The right-field ball girl at Fenway Park has made several solid plays this season.

Um, maybe it's because I tune them out a lot lately, but haven't most of the good plays come from the  left-field ball girl, who's brunette and so ridiculously obviously not the one in the video??

While I agree with the "if it is close" rule, she is a ball girl. I do not think that she is experienced enough to concentrate on the ball and ump at the same time. She saw the ball coming at her and made the play. She made a judgement call (that she shouldnt have made a judgement on) that turned out badly

it ended up not making a difference anyway.  And the Sox came back to win.  So maybe she'll be a good luck charm.  I just hope she can handle the extra spotlight she'll be getting over the next few games (if she's not fired)
