pendy575: If we change the name to mountain gorilla would it be so difficult to believe?

We still find species thought to be extinct

This a species thought to have never existed. Don't find many of those.

The article has a bunch of rumors of bigfoot shootings, none of which have any actual evidence.

This is a map of the US with every authenticated bigfoot shooting marked on the map with a bigfoot icon.

www.mapofusa.net

You may have noticed, there are no bigfoot icons.

/Duh.  That's because bigfoot doesn't exist, therefore nobody can shoot him.

If they exist I can't believe that none of them have turned up as roadkill.

It's not bigfoot. It's the Wookalar.

My cousin and I shot a big foot in the Tennessee mountains in 2003.  We thought is was Janet Reno.  We were wrong.  When we looked at it up close it didn't look anywhere near as ugly as Janet Reno.

WanPhat: I find cryptozoology fascinating.  I really really want there to be undiscovered species.  And not some worm or some monkey that's slightly different from other monkeys.  Something big and cool.  Unfortunately, however, most cryptos are very similar to known species.  The size of bigfoots (bigfeet?) by region tends to be a bit larger than the bears of that region.  The places with aquatic dinosaurs have huge turtles or something.  The mountain gorilla is the greatest such thing ever, but that was over 100 years ago in a sparsely populated area of a region white people were just beginning to explore.

Not infrequently six foot tall men are shot by hunters who were fully convinced they were shooting at a turkey.  Sometimes the mind sees what it wants to see.  I haven't heard a believable bigfoot story yet.  Bummer.

Too be fair, that's because turkey hunters tend to camouflage themselves completely. Unlike deer, turkeys have excellent color vision. That, and hunters tend to place realistic turkey decoys near themselves.

Usually what happens is that a stationary hunter with decoys is calling, and a "stalker" is answering with his own turkey call, and he ends up getting close and one or the other shoots each other.

That's why the catch-phrase for turkey hunting is "Stalking stinks". You set up, and you stay there.
