Obviously, none of these claims have panned out yet but it is pretty amazing that for a creature that supposedly does not exist, we have so many excellent shooting stories, often from otherwise credible, ordinary day to day folks who have never been known to make things up or lie.

And yet, somehow, not one of these people photographed or publicly displayed a carcass, and there was never any dead Bigfoot ever found later in the woods (at least none that could be positively identified as such).

Amusing read though. Most of these sound like stories a 3rd grader would make up to try and impress his friend. I especially like the one where Bigfoots came and threw sticks and rocks at an old man's house and gave him a heart attack.

TIL you can shoot at homeless people that throw rocks at your truck if you claim it was a bigfoot.

Mid to late 1800′s: Bexar, Texas. The Legend of the Converse Werewolf. A rancher sent his 15 year old son into the woods to hunt and told him not to come back until he had killed a deer. The boy never came back. They went searching for him and found his dead and mutilated body. A Bigfoot was standing over it. The rancher fired a shot and chased the Bigfoot into the woods. The rancher never made it back alive, apparently also killed by the Bigfoot. Reported by the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy.

Amazing that the bigfoot itself was able to relate the events that led to the deaths of the only two human witnesses.

Were is the photographic or video evidence?  I know people that have trail cams out in the woods over bait piles, I'd wager damn near every hiker or hunter has a phone just in case for emergencies, and said phone probably has a camera.

I mean it too.  And even before cell phone cameras were in most of the population's pockets, you had a proliferation of film camera (those old 110 cartridge cameras, the disposable cameras, etc.).

I suppose it's a mostly harmless obsession though.

Well, duh! Government coverup!

Is this crazy-person conspiracy week here on Fark? We've now done bigfoot and chemtrails.... I miss any?

/earlier in the week, I had a friend who, as supporting evidence for [CENSORED], sent me a link to an article from a 9-11 truther who also goes on to discuss "covert energy attacks", mind control, and HAARP

Well, apparently one of them is "said to be on display in some ritzy country club on the East Coast."

I'm getting a kick out of how many people immediately buried them.

And did the "Converse Werewolf" get those shoes when Obama showed up in his Time Machine one day?

Actually, that seems to be a theme for many of them. "Person wounds a bigfoot and is killed." That's awfully speculative bullshiat.

Here's a good one:

May 1966: Spillimacheen, British Colombia. A man watching two Bigfoots have sex while another watched shot the Bigfoot that was watching the other two but missed. He was hunting grizzly bears at the time. Reported by the BFRO site.

Oooo. Crypto-zoology AND a government coverup. Who is surprised that conspiracy theorists also believe in bigfoot?

1968: North of Carson, Wyoming. Three men were hired by a rancher to kill a Bigfoot that was killing his cows and sheep by tearing off their legs. Afterward, the body was picked up by a government helicopter and taken to a research facility in Almogordo, New Mexico to be autopsied and studied. Reported by Ray Crowe. Government coverup.

There have been bodies. A costume stuffed into a cooler, for example. Tufts of bear and wolf fur -- that sort of thing.

It's funny that prior to the modern era, these bigfoots could apparently be killed with firearms, but now that there is science available to comprehensively study them, they all manage to escape, excepting the ones that have been killed and the bodies seized by the government.

In oct 2012 we were hiking a ridge above a local state park when my better half says "Bear!"
My response: "Really?" *facepalm*
There's a 2yo bear, standing up on its hind legs, peaking at us from behind a tree. He was around 80 yds away. Watched us for at least 30 seconds. I just don't understand how any rational, thinking person could mistake what they are seeing in that situation. But, look at all the dumb shiat people believe in like literal creationism. And yes, the only picture I got of him was a blurry picture of his butt as he turned and ran away.

Even if they're extinct, but used to exist 10,000 years ago with the other megafauna of North America, there would be a fossil record.  Bones, teeth, something.  I mean really, we have fossils of every form of giant animal that ever lived on this continent, including giant farking beavers, but no apes.  Not even bones from smaller apes that could have evolved into a bigfoot.  And no bodies, bones, teeth, hair or etc from recent animals.  Every time somebody finds "bigfoot" hair and has it analyzed, the DNA comes back as bear or coyote.

The only evidence we have they could exist is legends, plaster casts of tracks, and blurry photos of tree stumps.  All of which could be, and is commonly, faked.

I have no problem with the concept of an animal living in the Pacific Northwest that people very rarely see. We find species we thought were extinct all of the time. It doesn't mean that I think these people have encountered real Bigfoots(Bigfeet?), just that I wouldn't find my head exploding if they actually produced a non-fake one tomorrow.

It's called panic and adrenaline.

I find cryptozoology fascinating.  I really really want there to be undiscovered species.  And not some worm or some monkey that's slightly different from other monkeys.  Something big and cool.  Unfortunately, however, most cryptos are very similar to known species.  The size of bigfoots (bigfeet?) by region tends to be a bit larger than the bears of that region.  The places with aquatic dinosaurs have huge turtles or something.  The mountain gorilla is the greatest such thing ever, but that was over 100 years ago in a sparsely populated area of a region white people were just beginning to explore.

Not infrequently six foot tall men are shot by hunters who were fully convinced they were shooting at a turkey.  Sometimes the mind sees what it wants to see.  I haven't heard a believable bigfoot story yet.  Bummer.

Agreed. Although I certainly got a good dose of adrenaline when he didn't immediately run off. I guess I should also mention that I had a gun and did not shoot the farking bear for no damn reason. From the size of him mama bear had given him the boot a few months prior and he was just trying to fatten up on hickory nuts. Can't a bear just get a nut?

Look out! Bigfoot is everywhere!

I'd love it. I love seeing animals in the wild. And yeah, no need to shoot if you aren't in danger, or it isn't hunting season. Never seen a bear(Or a moose, apparently they aren't all that uncommon around here). Probably seen enough deer, elk and antelope to last a lifetime, though. I need to see something more interesting. :-)
