Bobby Smith, Glen Murray, Sidney Crosby
Al McInnis, Cam Russel

And no goalies worth playing. Someone tie a stick in front of the net.

Don't read the comments in the article. There are idiots saying Perry & Doughty could play for Detroit. There are two problemos with that stupid comment. Detroit is American. They are not American. So if they were "going home" to play why would they play in the US if they were Canadians? Also it takes longer to get into Detroit because of customs so clearly It would take less time to get into Toronto.

If this is anything like the NBA article like this it will be fun but the author will take some liberties to make it work.

OK, since there are no NHL teams outside of North America, send all the international players in the US to Washington, (where their embassies reside) and in Canada to Ottawa.  That gives at least one US team a chance (mine, of course).

No hockey player would put on a douchebaggy display about leaving "their home" in an hour long ESPN special in the first place.

Hey, Cleveland -- this a-hole ditched you in the most a-holeish way possible when your team was on the verge of being championship caliber.  Welcoming this traitorous scumwad back just shows how little self esteem Cleveland fans have.  You, as fans, should tell him to "take his talent" right on back out of there.

Hey! You're forgetting about the 2003 Sharks!

/Why yes, yes, they were one of the most "How Did THAT Happen?" Playoff-makers in NHL History. But, STILL...
//Fun Fact: It was the last time anybody tried the novel concept of, "Let's stick 5 Americans on the ice in a playoff game. What could go wrong?"

Dude, it is just sports, farking relax.

I dont remember the what the Cavs cap space was heading into the 2010-2011 season but I would hardly call them Championship caliber based on their performance against the Celtics that year.

This is hypothetical and fantasy so distance is irrelevant.  Moscow gets a team. As do other European cities.
Boston gets a team only if a lot of players come from Mass.

Saying he isn't from Cleveland because he's actually from Akron is like saying a team in Santa Clara can't represent San Francisco.

In fairness he never reps Cleveland in his speech.

As others have pointed out - go back through the letter in SI - zero mentions of Cleveland. "Northeast Ohio"? Check. Akron? Check. Cleveland isn't his home, and he doesn't give a f*ck about Cleveland. Never has.

Team Buffalo (western NY including Rochester):

Patrick Kane-Ryan Callahan-Nick Foligno
Lee Stempniak-Brian Gionta-Marcus Foligno

Two forward lines but they better score a lot, because there are no active NHL defensemen or goalies from western NY.  Nearly all New York State defensemen seem to come from Long Island, interestingly enough. (Komisarek, Bogosian, Scuderi, Gilroy - all from Long Island).  And the only NYS goalie of note (Jimmy Howard) is from central NY (Syracuse).

Conspiracy theory:  Lebron and the Cav's owner knew they couldn't build a championship team while he was playing for them.  They were always good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to win it all or bad enough to get great players in the draft.

So they concocted The Decision so Lebron could go to Miami and win championships while the Cavs got a bunch of great draft picks over four years.  Lebron then "comes home" with the Cavs having a ton of cap space to sign him and another star player and those #1 picks.  That was the only way Cleveland could have a championship-calibre team.

In order to avoid the NBA hitting them with a ton of bricks for collusion, the Lebron left in a douchey way, and the owner posted the bitter open letter on the teams website for years.  The fans bitterness at Lebron for leaving for Miami will be wiped away if he actually wins a championship in Cleveland.

I'm not talkin "local" teams. The comment is in regards to the headline, I'm talkin where a person is actually from vs where everyone says his "home" is. Last I checked Cleveland is not in Akron.

So let's say a guy grows up across the Mississippi River from Minneapolis/St. Paul in Wisconsin. He lives closer to where the T-wolves play and attended those games as a kid. He gets drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks. Does he have two homes like a child of divorce?
