fusillade762: What is it with TFers and cats? I mean, I love cats and am glad to be in the company of others that do, but how does a TF-only thread generate so many comments? And don't you worry about the "liters" not bothering because they feel like anything they post will be drowned out?How did a site started with a squirrel end up with cats?
yobbery: Biscuit is a nimrod. Yes, I pissed on my cat. I got him nose to tail.Serves the little shiat right for never coming out to meet me. JMHO. :o)professional_vampire: For those who are interested in the Caturday t-shirt from last week - heeere's how to order! Link
Hey all...no way I'm gonna be able to respond to all the comments I would like to, so I will proceed with an update and some pics.I'm gradually getting settled in, and am trying to (gratefully) adjust to the slower lifestyle here in the mid-west. I will more than likely not have internet at home until I get a job, so unfortunately my attendance on Caturday (and checking email) will continue to be sporadic - but I will check in when possible.I wanna thank everyone for the love and support that you given me during this time. Special thanks to CDK and Mrs CDK for all they have done - I would not be here right now if not for them.Meanwhile, while I was having dinner at their house last night (damn, those people can cook - you practically had to roll me outta there) I got to meet Butter, Dusty, Caesar and even the one and only Cooper the cat.
Ms MacGyver: On another note - anyone know how to keep a cat from chewing up cables? Phone cords, earphone cords, MP3 player cords, etc.
Deathbymeteor: Good morning Caturday,Busy week here. Had to take a new certification test to prove I still know what I know, so that was a couple hundred dollars I could use for other things. Like the PC repairs I'm going to have to do soon, since the fan is dying, which means replacement parts to be ordered...
valnt9: phew!, finally caught up.I have a question.Rocky, my out side breakfast and dinnervisitor has an upper respiratory gunky going on.sneezing, raspy breathing...I know there is a cold med OTC that can be used on catsbut I can't remember the name. Chlor something, I think.anyone have any ideas?

Diocletian's Last Cabbage: Happy Moansday everbuddy!I was standing on my back deck yesterday afternoon, smoking my cigar and sipping on my bumtini (a stired martini with no vodka, gin or martin) when I suddenly realized: I FORGOT THE INVENTION EXCHANGE!Soooorrrryyyy! And so, without further adoo...OK kids, how many times have you asked yourself, "why can't I get this damn charcoal to light? Why, oh why, didn't I get the Matchlight brand instead of this damn el-Cheapo brand from the Dollah Store?"I was asking myself this same question the other weekend, trying to get some no-name brand charcoal to light. I must've dumped 1/5th of a can of lighter fluid on the coals. And in spite of paper, grease-soaked paper towels, cardboard, and LOTS of re-lights, I STILL couldn't get the damn fire started! I ended up giving up and pan frying my steak. DISASTER!So my invention this week is based on the need to get charcoal to light so you can grill some meat without the need for lots of lighter fluid, matches, or tinder. My fellow Caturdayans, I give you:The Solar-Powered Charcoal Grill. It works like this; A solar panel (or an optional AC plug) charges up some high-capacity batteries. The batteries are discharged through heating elements that are built into a platform that fits into any hibachi, small grill, or standard state park charcoal grill. The charcoal is poured onto the elements, and the heater is switched on.The current won't last long of course, but it will last long enough to get the fire going on the bottom briquettes that are in contact with the heating elements. These get the rest of the pile on fire. 10 or 15 minutes later and you have meat searing on the upper grill! Bone ape-a-tit!Waddya think, sirs?
yobbery: Nate's home. He's a bit stoned at the moment but he'll be fine. Dentistry will call us early next week to set up an appointment.[yobbery.smugmug.com image 400x600]

CAT-LIKE TYPING DETECTED: Bedtime..? What's that..? I got up about 4:30pm EST yesterday and won't be going to sleep until noon-ish t'day.. Iff'n you read earlier posts o'mine in this thread, you know that..afore yesterday's sleep I'd been up 50+ hours.. "bedtime" has little to no meaning in my reality.. *grin*
lilyspad: syzygy whizz: Try to ignore and just step over or around him, and he will run across your path,Lily does that to me when I get home. I call it the soccer shuffle. Right at my feet as I walk through the house......I end walking on the outside of her, with her in between my feet. And she tries to rub me all the way. Feral my ass.....!!! :D
Squilax: I'll pass on all your good wishes to my young friend.I know my kitties have been getting extra snoogs since it happened...In other news - I'm cat-sitting for my upstairs neighbor this weekend, her cat Jojo is such a sweetie, but very skinny - anyone have any ideas about cat ailments or long-term conditions which might leave the animal scrawny to the point of skin and bones (despite definitely being fed enough) but otherwise totally normal and healthy? She went missing about 9mos ago for a week, but got a vet check-up afterwards so there's nothing wrong with her, but she looks alarmingly thin.
vudutek: happy now?
CrankyAndi: Louie did some portrait sitting for me...
danceswithcrows: First cat (family): In 1981, one of my father's colleagues got a job offer in England. He had a tabby cat. Multiple-month quarantine and large fees for that meant he couldn't take the cat to England. He asked if we could adopt the cat. We said yes, and Paganini the 15-pound classic tabby (looked like the inimitable Maru, but less telegenic.) So we kept him until 1993, when kidney failure, thyroid problems, and old age got him. He didn't like to sit on people's laps. He'd sit right next to you, but not on your lap. He was also absolute death to the mouse, vole, and chipmunk population near our house.First cat (mine): In August 2005, I went out for a cigarette, and heard meowing from underneath a bush near the apartment complex door. I traced the meowing to a tiny black cat who really wanted to be petted and had no collar. I wondered if I could deal with a cat, and then thought I couldn't live with myself if I ignored the cat. So I picked her up and schlepped her up 3 flights of stairs to my apartment. (I was lucky she was a Burmese; she was super-pissed and Burmese don't generally attack people.) I poured out a bowl of water and shredded some ham for her. She seemed to appreciate that. Then I drove to the nearby Meijer, bought a litter box, some cat litter, and some cat food.I posted "Found Cat" signs at the nearby apartment buildings. A guy showed up a day later, looked at the cat, and said, "I've been feeding this cat, but it's not mine. I think someone abandoned it." So I adopted her. The first week I had her, she hid in the closet, only coming out to eat and drink and use the litterbox. Then she started meowing raucously at every opportunity and occupying my lap every chance she got.
And the elusive Biscuit giving me the evil eye when I surprised him...
Mia approving of my presence as long as she kept getting treats....
And some pics from last weekend at casa yobbery that I never had a chance to post:Wolf deciding that it's OK to be in the same room with me...
CAT-LIKE TYPING DETECTED: CAT-LIKE TYPING DETECTED: And, since I said it, I should start....and, it appears I didn't start.. =pThanks to those who did.. Love the stories..Now.. Let's hear from the rest of you.. *grin*

lilyspad: ArmednHammered: lilyspad: [i.imgur.com image 250x400]I love Lily to death, but I have to de-fur every day before I go to work. Sometimes, I forget and have to grab a long piece of tape at work, and do it there. Everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Maybe......I AM!! :DWhat, they never heard of the many uses of duct tape? For shame! They should bow to your advanced knowledge!/train them in proper customer service!I think they are just jealous.......and the fact that I get to rub tape across my chest, and they can't!!! :D
syzygy whizz: *le sigh*Wimsey's gone walkabout...not like him, although he does so very occasionally.Hope he shows up for dinner...or to greet me when I get home tomorrow.Keeping them indoors is NOT an option...unless I want catfights, pee in inappropriate places and aggression towards myself.Even in winter when the weather is nasty below brrrr they HAVE to go out even for just a few minutes to keep from going stir-crazy.
CAT-LIKE TYPING DETECTED: Random thought I had fer no knows why..I call on all of you to finish one simple comment.."I got my very first cat when.."This should blow us past KiloKat, easy.. ;)

I like the coloring.

What do you want me to say?Oh, I don't know, maybe how I'm such a great cat-dad and how my beasties are so lucky to have me as their cat-dad, maybe something like that!/filter works//but you can still say all that stuff!
spinach gunk: Ahhhh, bessyglass and QJ are here doin their thing.... dis Caturday is gud!Glad people got a bit of a LOL out of my Order of the Golden Biscuit badge. For anyone without the means to translate the latin motto at the bottom, it roughly says, "the fool gets a shower".[img.fark.net image 480x360]
Diocletian's Last Cabbage: duke3522: [img.fark.net image 850x508]This girl ran off last Sunday, and didn't show up until Friday morning about 1:30. She's different some how. She is a rescue cat who never really seemed to enjoy life. Since her return she has had more to say, demanded more snugs and rubs, and is actually getting along with our other cat. Right now they are hanging out in a window together!! Never seen that before. She even woke me up this morning demanding rubs. No idea why the change, but I hope it lasts. She's been fixed, right? She couldn't be having kittens?
yobbery: *sigh* Nathan is at the emergency hospital now. After the spat with Wolf he kept licking his chops as if he had hair stuck in this mouth. The licking turned into extreme tenderness and drooling. Our vet recommended we take him straight to the emergency room. The doc at the hospital thinks he may have a puncture wound in his mouth or a tooth issue. The doc doesn't think his Jaw is broken but needs to sedate him for a better look. Since we are literally within walking distance of the hospital (PVSEC) he told us to just hang out at home and they'll call us after they get a chance to take a peek. They're pretty busy now and it may take a bit of time. Other than his jaw/tooth/whatever he's perfectly healthy and I'm sure other cases are going to take precedence. He weighs 16lbs! Freaked me out because he is not the least bit fat, but him and Wolf are both big muscular cats.I'll update when I hear something.
danceswithcrows: why someone would keep a cat outside here in Tempe where it's ~105°F in the afternoon is another question.

yobbery: predle: I went over twice, each time with a feather on a stick (I have more than one of those). It definitely helped although I really doubt that there'll be any cuddling with Cali this week. I left one of the feather things and intend to go over tomorrow armed with several other toys. Hopefully this will help keep her amused. I'm also going to look and see if I have any batteries for my laser toy. I could sit for hours and play with her with that thing.Poor thing. She may not be used to being left alone. [www.smugmug.com image 463x347]

spman: [fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net image 403x537]My cat Fluffy Kitty made her way to the rainbow bridge this week, after battling vaccine associated sarcoma for a few months. She was 13, and was the such a sweet cat, I will miss her. We did the best we could for her, we had her original tumor surgically removed, and the vet referred us to an veterinary oncologist, but for a 13 year old cat my mother and I decided that putting her through that would be insane. She was doing quite well until the end, but she eventually was too weak to do much besides eat and use the litter box, and after taking her back to the vet on Wednesday, it was decided that it was her time to go. Goodbye Fluffy Kitty, I will see you again some day :-(
predle: Morticia can look mean, but she never is, except with Juno, but as I said before, that's a whole different story.[predle576.smugmug.com image 640x561]
Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with a calico kitten who has a huge cattitude? I had always heard how unpredictable calico's and torties are, but having one of each that are very predictable cuddle bugs I had a hard time believing it. My vet is always amazed at how Lucy and Morticia are so friendly and easy to work with. The only strange and unpredictable one around here is Juno, but that's a whole different story.I'm taking care of my neighbor's 7 month old calico kitten and this kitten is nuts. The first couple of times I went over there (when the owners were still home), the cat would plant herself on my lap, purr and want all sorts of attention. The last couple of times she has jumped in my lap and asked for attention, the first time she hissed at me so I stopped petting her and she jumped down. The next time she jumped on my lap and asked for attention, but I wanted to see how things went so I just left her alone, she turned around hissed, bit my arm and scratched me. I played with her for quite a while before to tire her out but that didn't help. I've used soft eyes with her and she does it right back, but then she'll hiss or bite or scratch, or all three. I'm not afraid of Cali, but it's going to be a long week for both of us if this keeps up. Also she tries to get out when I open the door and I really don't want to lose this kitten. Next time I go over I'm going to take a feather on a stick toy and see if I can totally wear her out. I'm going to open the door just wide enough to put the toy in to distract her which should keep her from trying to get out. Then I'll try to get her to play until she collapses, maybe then she'll sit on my lap and want some lovin' and not attack me. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them. What a sweet, friendly and totally predictable Tortie and Calico might look like.
CrankyAndi: So I was strolling thru at work...on my phone. I got to Yobbery's comments about Biscuit and about lost it.I do believe the old saying 'who pissed in your cheerios' has now been changedWHO PISSED ON YOUR BISCUIT!!!!
