fusillade762: What is it with TFers and cats? I mean, I love cats and am glad to be in the company of others that do, but how does a TF-only thread generate so many comments? And don't you worry about the "liters" not bothering because they feel like anything they post will be drowned out?

How did a site started with a squirrel end up with cats?

Welcome to the Clowder...cookies on the rig, booze on the left, and the litterbox is dwn the hall!

This week, I've been trying to get a stray cat (solid black, about 9 pounds) near my condo complex to trust me.

Monday: No cat. Tuesday: Saw cat near other building, and she wanted to be petted, but I couldn't pet her for more than 3 minutes because I had to catch the bus.

Wednesday: Cat was about 15 feet from my front door. She's probably figured out where I live. Instead of wanting to be petted, she ran away from me, and wasn't interested when I brought out a can of food.

Thursday: I saw her again near another building, and she wanted to be petted, but again I didn't have time to pet her for more than a couple of minutes.

Friday: No cat. Today: ???

She's friendly enough and looks healthy enough that she's obviously not feral and is eating well. She has no collar, but might be someone's outside cat--why someone would keep a cat outside here in Tempe where it's ~105°F in the afternoon is another question. I don't need another cat as I've already got Moira The Meowy. I suppose I'll try to get her into my house and then put up "Found Cat" signs though.

Good Morning!

Turns out Biscuit is a badass hero.
www.smugmug.com

Wolf and Nathan have tiffs every once in a while that never really amount to much. This morning I woke up to the worst yet. It was a full blown cat fight which started in the bedroom, made it's way down the hall through the kitchen and into the basement. I missed the entire thing except for the countless tufts of fur they in their wake. My wife saw most of it and said that she really could not tell which was the aggressor since they took turns at the chase and having the upper hand. She was trying to break it up but they just kept at it (They were so worked up they even growled at her.)

Enter the Golden Child...
By the time they hit the basement Wolf was chasing Nathan. Nathan ran into the laundry room and Biscuit blocked Wolf at the door seemingly to protect Nathan. He was crouched, hissing and ready to strike. Wolf is almost twice Biscuit's size and much more powerful but he quietly backed away....game over! I would have loved to have seen that portion of the fracas however the rest has me quite concerned. There is peace for now and nobody seems hurt. Both perps are up and about yet they still seem very wary.

I guess you can say Biscuit is full of piss 'n vinegar. I never knew he had it in him! As for the other two I need to get to the root of the problem. I think it somehow stems from a bowl of water I keep next to the bed for them. Quite often I'll see one or the other protectively hovering over it and it seems like that's the spot where many disagreements originate. So today we'll start by moving the bowl to another more open area. This has got to stop.

..and another cat for the wall of text.

this is Mokey... i rescued her and her brother, Batman at the end of May. I was driving home from work one morning and they were seriously in the middle of a busy highway... they weren't old enough to walk, and their eyes weren't open. I brought them home, and my cat, Godwin, became their foster dad. More pics to follow!!

Welcome! What cookies did you bring??

Deathbymeteor: Good morning Caturday,

Busy week here. Had to take a new certification test to prove I still know what I know, so that was a couple hundred dollars I could use for other things. Like the PC repairs I'm going to have to do soon, since the fan is dying, which means replacement parts to be ordered...

Have you tried lubricating the fan?  Had an old, second-hand PC that had a cooling fan completely die on me.  Was in another bout between jobs, so I couldn't afford a new one (yes, I was that broke).

Tried looking up how to jerry-rig a new fan duct from a regular desk fan and found you could use 3-in-1 sewing machine oil.  Disassembled the 'puter, removed the fan, peeled the label half off the fan and found a lube point for the motor bearing.  One or two drops later, and the fan was OK and I was back in business!

Ms MacGyver: Just got a call from UGA. Rufus was moved to the neurological ICU on Friday. As of this morning, they still have no clue. She said , "we're puzzled. We just don't know." He gets better in some areas and worse in others. He stood yesterday but can't today. He waga his tail but can't move his legs. The only positive is that he drank some from a syringe today. Nutmeg the cat has lost weight since he's been gone. I'm stressed to the end of my sanity. Rufus isn't in pain, but he's not getting better.

Hope the veterinary version of Dr House diagnosis what's up and cures Rufus of what ails him in as quickly as possible.  No matter how crusty and cantankorous he behaves (the doc, not Rufus).

Hai guise! I'm taking Uncle Cabbage's example and am sitting in the local library (not sure when I will have internet at my new abode). I just skimmed the thread quickly, so - condolences on the losses, paws crossed for all ailing animals and peoples.....

yobbery:  Biscuit is a nimrod. Yes, I pissed on my cat. I got him nose to tail.

Serves the little shiat right for never coming out to meet me. JMHO.  :o)

professional_vampire: For those who are interested in the Caturday t-shirt from last week - heeere's how to order!   Link

For some reason, the library is blocking that site. Please email me the info (for future reference, I can't afford to buy right now)

I still have to post the pics I took last week at yobbery's house, and give you all an update, but I have to go back to job hunting right now. HOWEVER, I hope to be over at MR & MRS CDK's house tomorrow where I can use their internet and catch up with you all. If not, I'll come back to the library -  I've missed you guys.

Welcome, fellow languishing library lounger!

Is yer library full of special ed adults, gangers, and street bums like mine is?  Or did you get a good one?  If you got a good one, don't take it for granted!  Libraries are, in my opinion, vastly underappreciated in the digital age.

Simul-post!! :D

Squilax: Good morning fellow Caturdayians... I have a sad tale to tell today.

As some of you may know, I work at a drop-in for street kids. Recently one of them got her first place, and moved in with her 6month old kitten Ashes. The apartment is supported housing, built for people with mental health issues, and permits people to have small pets. However, the windows open downwards, and are only about a foot off the floor. My young client has a place on the 9th floor, and sadly on Thursday morning, she fell out the window to a concrete balcony 5 floors below. We were all in shock, and mourning, because we assumed the cat had died. The young lady's boyfriend scaled the building attempting to retrieve the cat's body, but before he reached it the security guards came and talked to him, and they decided to help him access the area that the cat fell.

Well, we were all astonished when she turned up alive. For an hour it was a carnival atmosphere in the Centre, we were all so happy that she was ok. Ashes had a little bit of trouble moving her back leg, but she wasn't crying and she seemed to be ok.

A follow up xray and vet visit yesterday afternoon told a different story - her pelvis was shattered. Poor little thing didn't even cry, didn't complain, but she was all broken up inside. The surgery was $5k to start and for a street kid, even with the help of the SPCA advocate, it was out of reach.

So here's to Ashes, a trooper to the last...

My condolences to you all and to poor Ashes especially.

Holy Ceiling Cat, what a morning! Get up, get ready for work, head out then about 1/4 mile from home a 16 year old kid on a bicycle plows into my car. Kid hit on the passenger rear door, got a hell of dent there now. Call cops, ambulance takes kid to the hospital, I have to go to the police station to give a formal statement then go to the hospital to give blood to prove I wasn't under the influence. Needless to say, I didn't go to work. Now sitting in a diner waiting for food. Calgon, take me away!!!

danceswithcrows: why someone would keep a cat outside here in Tempe where it's ~105°F in the afternoon is another question.

Some cats, for some incomprehensible reason, enjoy that kind of weather. Remember, their body temperature is higher than ours, and the species originated in Africa.

My cat really enjoyed 100 degree days back when she was an outdoor cat. She'd sleep in the shade on the deck all day. You could get her inside for about the 5 minutes it would take her to eat dinner, then she'd be back outside. In her old age, she had started to enjoy going outdoors less and less, and now she lives indoors full time in my apartment.

But if that cat's owners have a cat flap, it may just be that the cat enjoys the hot weather. Some do.

Thank you, she was a sweet dog. I was with my brother when he had to pick her up from the vet once, everyone there wanted to greet her. Who doesn't love a Beagle. He's had some hard luck with pets recently. This is the second dog he's lost and one of his cats in only three years.
