Like the kid's older brother isn't going to play that trick on him anyway. Scientists don't have the imaginations to do anything meaner to a kid than his siblings will do.

Philosophy experiments would be much more cruel.

"If you took a newborn and raised it until it was 10 in a completely featureless room where everything is white then showed him or her the color blue would they know what it is?"

Found it.  Man, it bugs me when journalists describe a study and don't cite their sources.

Further evidence of the Dearing-Tangney distinction between guilt and shame, and Roy Baumeister's (all praise be upon his name among social psychologists everywhere) work on guilt as a prosocial emotion.

Guilt is good.

No, never. *cough*Oppenheimer*cough*

This would be an awesome hidden camera show.

They've done that kind of thing with dogs. Raised them with their eyes covered. Raised them for months without using their legs. Etc.

Well, why not? We have magazines that make women getting older feel guilty and ugly so they can sell more "beauty" products. We have magazines that make young girls think that if they don't weigh 80 lbs and look like a survivor from a nazi death camp then they are fat and ugly. We have organized religion who make you think that if you don't follow 10 rules and give them your money you will burn in hell forever because God loves you. Why can't the scientists get in on the mind farking? Everyone else is doing it.

All I can say about that is that is hasn't worked. Sheesh, looked at young couples these days. It's almost always a slim fit male with a lardass female. I mean men don't even have choices these days, that's all they get, fat women.

They do this as part of emotional development therapies as well.  The other one is to lock a toy they want in a clear box and give them a set of keys, none of which will work in the lock.

I expected this to be about the Standford Marshmallow Experiment and the little girl subject (mentioned in the TED talk about it) who hollowed out the marshmallow.

But no, it was about shrinks messing with children's minds in a different fashion.

I think the scientists who experiment and test on dogs/chimps should feel bad.  We have a perfectly good population of violent criminals that we could use and I'm sure no one would be too upset about it.

Actual experiments with people and animals who've been raised with vision problems that were later corrected indicates that the subject's brain would have serious trouble processing the new visual stimuli.

Bah, empathy and guilt get in the way of pure research.

I would like to see an updated version of the "Little Albert" experiment.

Moar mind altering of horror in children!

I'm going to propose a new experiment.  Start from this same experiment, but the "children" are actually midget actors who go into a violent fit and visibly hurt themselves (like repeatedly bang their head into a wall, drawing blood).  Then the "child's" mother bursts in wailing.  Meanwhile the scientist's coworkers stand and "observe" for 60 seconds, slowly shaking their heads.

It's the honey boo boo reality show mentality.  Parents will give researchers consent to do farked up things to their kids because it gives them a few minutes of vicarious, center-of-attention pleasure.

This weekend, if you can start the truck and it's sunny, I need you to leave the trailer park.

Find a city of over 100,000 people, or a smaller town with either an above average cost of living and income, or a University.

Find a park downtown, and make sure you bring something to hide your boner.

Oh man. I hope that was just hyperbole to make a point about siblings being dicks to each other (which is true). There were some sick farking scienists out there who performed outrageously malicious experiments on children in the name of 'research'. If I wasn't on mobile I'd link but then I'd feel bad for ruining everyone's day.

That prepares them for national elections and Cleveland Browns seasons.

Scientists are more intelligent than everyone else, and therefore exist at a level above that of the common simpleton.  There is no single thing more important or more valid than a scientific experiment, meaning that scientists are equally more important and more valid than other people.  The morality of experiments is a pointless topic for argument.  Why?  The morality of scientists is the highest level of morality by virtue of scientists being the highest level of human.

It is suggested that the OP return to stimulating himself to recorded fornication rather than ponder what he is not qualified to consider.

Sarcasm, of course, but the above is the attitude that most scientists seem to have when they speak about their work, or about other people.  The only group of professionals with a God complex as large as that of scientists would have to be engineers, who are always quick to point out how any non-engineer is little more than a piece of mobile fungus by comparison.
