But the last time I visited it was closed.

Now if only they can get rid of the mummers, their accents, patti labelle, cheesesteaks, that smell when you drive from the airport toward the city, the homeless who sleep on the avenue of the arts, that abandoned wasteland across the river in jersey, the zoo that cages large cats in boxes, the mass transit system that takes 45 minutes to go ten miles, and all of north philly, they'll have the place fixed.

Oh, and Italians. The place is just swimming with Italians.

Just waiting for a elderly person thinking this is one of those "drive thru beer gardens" with his Cadillac!

You say that like it's a problem or something.

So far, this thread has certainly made something pop up.

By which I mean, I have a massive erection, if you catch my drift.

Pennsylvania has byzantine alcohol laws

Only* state stores can sell spirits and wine but they can't sell beer.

Beer distributors can only sell beer by the case or keg.

Restaurants however can sell beer or wine for takeout. Beer amounts range from 1 bottle to 2 six packs (unless you leave the store and return).

However food stores (convenience, grocery) that contain an eating area need a restaurant license which gives them the right to sell beer and wine to go. So now there are a bunch of restaurants that have bang up beer sales where few people actually eat.

I presume these new "pop up beer gardens" also have the right to sell beer to go.

You forgot Philly's convenience store exception, though all they seem to sell is malt liquor.

It's nice that that sounds really cool, but too bad they'd still be in Philly, surrounded on all sides by a post-apocalyptic toxic waste dump.

Just got back from Philly, so getting a kick.... After years of me dousing Philly (dirty, terrible airport, no class, etc...) I actually took the wife on a short buisness trip and took her to dinner- had her jump out to help me parallel park the car into a very tight parking space and she was promtly hounded by a bum shaking a cup at her and cussing her out as she was trying to guide me.  Hounding continued as I fed the meter, and even after I slipped him a crisp Washington.

F Philly.

Sorry, on with the beer maidens.....
