None of those make your home look more "expensive." They make you look like the sort of person who spends entirely too much time on Pinterest.

Nice find subby!
Most of those ARE really cool and inexpensive without looking too"crafty".

I promise you, none of those things will make your house look like anything but a half-assed mess.

True, but a little low-effort staging work that might cost you $500 total throughout your house can make the difference on whether you get full asking price or end up with overbids.

A little bit of "ooooohhh, shiny" can really make a huge difference, especially if you're selling a starter home.

Doing the same thing to a $400k custom home would obviously stand out like a sore thumb.

I'm pretty sure Weird Al just released a song that covers most of those upgrades.

/And it's really bugging me that the paint lines on the first one don't line up with the grout lines

"Cover up an unsightly air vent with a rubber doormat."

And how in f*ck will the vent function if it's covered with rubber?

There are a few useful ones.  The molding at the top of the kitchen cabinets was a good idea - I store stuff up there anyway, and it looks a bit nicer.  But really - who the hell takes the time to wrap power cords in suede cording???

I was wondering the same thing.  That looks like an air intake - wouldn't you want that to function?

I was wondering that too but I think that the grate looking thing is what's made out of rubber.  If that is the case there is plenty of room for the air to get in.

TFA seems to have a real thing about shower curtains & the rings to hold them up.

Info linked in TFA here

The article linked in this thread actually shows the $529 replacement cover you can order online, vs the shiatty-looking $20 perforated rubber doormat plastered over a cheap white apartment-grade return..

Why not just invite your daughter's 3rd grade class to come to your house and decorate. Hand out plenty of markers, paint, glue and construction paper.

No, you need it in the summer too.  The return air is where the furnace gets the air to blow across the furnace which goes out your supply vents.  Any type of covering is going to restrict airflow.  I mean if you want to replace your blower motor every 2 years and raise your gas/electric costs, go right ahead.

Paint your vinyl or linoleum flooring.

and in less than a month it will look like shiat as the paint wears and peals off.

Hide your television wires in a shower curtain rod

Um, they make conduit for that exact purpose, the only thing a showercurtain rod will do is make your house look ghetto.

"1.  When searching for a rubber door mat, try to find one that allows plenty of airflow, meaning that the door mat has a large amount of space in between the rubber sections."

Those 3-D back splash tiles would set me back $1,024 for a 2x3 foot area. Holy fark.
