The Australian State of New South Wales' Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe has issued a statement warning local punters not to buy chargers that do not bear the usual panoply of certification marks after "the recent death of a consumer where an unapproved USB charger was potentially implicated."

Somebody submitted a link about a month ago showing a teardown of an Apple power supply with the expected certification marks on the case. It was a fake built to lower standards that did not have, for example, the expected air gap between low voltage and high volate components.

Volate should be voltage, of course. No idea how that happened. But a flying power supply would be cool.

"What are you thinking was the culprit for her death?"

"USB power supply went bad on her"

"Oh, was there a fire?"

"No, she was strangled"

This sounds strangely familiar...

kbronsito: narrowing down cause of death to one thing in australia must be the most difficult job ever.

Now it's Skull Island meets Maximum Overdrive.  The wildlife is teaming up with the electronic devices.

Didn't the first time this was submitted have an "ironic" tag too?

Yes, by all means make sure you spend an extra dollar to buy the fake charger that also has the fake certification stickers too.

<insert Aussie Native Expert.jpg No.  Don't wanna use that guy>

Unlike the benign American version, the Australian USB Charger is a deadly foe.  Capable of storing massive amounts of electricity and discharging it at the slightest provocation, the Australian USB charger is to be avoided at all costs.  It usually prefers the quietude of the back of the office desk drawer but will emerge during mating season.  During this time, the males will display what the Aussies call "Gadohshiatitshockedmeagainbruce" or "Chazzshockers" for short.

Knowing their deadliness, Aussie will charge their phones and laptops using an Electric Wallaby.  These unique creature have adapted to the local power grid where the consume electricity and store it in the belly fat.

All right, I give up. Why's this 'ironic'?

Should have used PLUG tag.

And yes. This article is from June 27th. I'm not saying I haven't accidentally submitted old articles that somehow popped up in my current events sites, but they got redlit. Apparently the magic formula is repeat + old.

/meh, a few are bound to slip through, nbd

Oh, the irony, it stuns me with its blatant yet unavoidable non-existence.

Wow, that's gotta be like four people in the world killed by these things. They are overtaking sharks this year in things your highly unlikely going to die from

Great. Yet another thing down under that's trying to kill you.

This might be a stretch, but I think the irony may be that, of all the things in Australia that can kill you - pretty much every living thing as far as i can tell - this woman survived them all only to be done in by a USB charger.

I know ... like I said, its a stretch. Ironic tag would not have been my first choice.

What makes more sense is subby's finger, encrusted with Cheetos dust and pork rind grease, slipped on the mouse button and selected "Ironic" rather than another tag, any of which (including Florida) would have been more appropriate.

The Florida tag would have been ironic

Ironic Tag because how can something that never stays rightside up exist where everything is upside-down?
