Marge: Homer, you do know the E is broken on that typewriter.
Homer: We don't need no stinkin' E! Let's see... Restaurant Review... No! Eatery Evaluation! No! Food Box! Go or No Go by Homer... no, Earl... no... Bill Simpson!

They should have gone with "Tesla T" to go old school trolling on Ford.

That's the way it is: Pep Boy's did the same thing to Ford over the "Futura" nameplate...

Mercedes will be interested to hear that.

Isn't that called an E-Series. Tesla specifically wanted to name their car the "Model E" just like the others are the Model S and the Model X (yes they would have Models S,E,X). Unfortunately, Ford still has the rights to "Model E". Not the letter E as in E-model or E-series, just "Model E"

I want one for $35k.

I'm gonna get one. $35,000 isn't really that much these days.

And I would not be surprise if that is even limited in some way to refer to cars.

I bet Haynes could come up with a 2 person love seat that has a large cupholder/tray partition in the middle and name it "Model E" for the shape when looking down at it.. But the couch and car would likely not be confused with each other, they could get away with it

Mercedes would be E-Class... E-Series is Ford, no?  E-150, E-350... a fair bit uglier than the Mercedes, or anything Tesla is likely to ever make.  E is short for Econoline, after all.

The rest of society calls the E-Series a van. Only Ford can call them trucks.

If they had a minivan or a truck, I'd buy it. I'm right in the middle of family life right now, so a sedan isn't quite enough at the moment.

They are calling it the model 3, but "3" will be represented by 3 horizontal lines, just like the "E" in their logo.  just Elon trolling Ford.

Mazda just uses the number.  It's not a Mazda Model 3, it's just a Mazda 3.

I would be happier if Tesla - or any e-carmaker - came out with a 1/4 or 1/2-ton pickup with four-wheel drive, a 300-km range between charges, a decent few-hundred bhp and towing capacity - oh, and adequate interior heat and defrosting at -30C.  (And it would  be a real bonus if they made it look just like a Land Rover 110)

Heck, I could even go for a forward-control utility or a van.

They'd sell thousands of them.

Is that confirmed?  I could see Ford bringing Tesla to task for doing that, since the   in "Tesla Font" already corresponds to an "E" in the Latin alphabet.

They could square off the right side of each line, so that only the left side is scalloped (or whatever the appropriate word is).

Correct word, but must be pronounced "skuh-lopped".

I looked at the USPTO database (can't link to search results because they expire, but go to http://www.uspto.gov/trademarks/index.jsp).

Application 86029275 on August 5, 2013 from Tesla is abandoned.
Application 86133442 on December 3, 2013 from Ford is live.

I can see Ford wanting this for their eco-boost engine line.

A two door coupé version of the S would seem to be a good idea. The five door S is very good performance wise and a two door coupé version should be relatively easy to engineer.

From the frame down they are a truck.  In fact, you can get an E-450 which is like 100 more than an E-350 (300 more than the E-150 which is really not a manly van).

The difference here is that Ford has asserted itself over such things in the past where Porsche would look at a Peugeot and say, "Meh...who cares."  Meanwhile, Ford sues Ferrari for calling its Formula 1 car  "F150" like there would be some confusion between the two.

Go with "K". Chrysler's not using it.
