I don't know, a sudden and uncomfortable meat allergy probably would.

But Richard Branson can't live my life for me so...yah...no.

2014-07-17 03:59:14 AM
Well then subby I guess nothing will then

2014-07-17 04:15:43 AM
Hey, Everyone! I've got a couple of jumbo pepperoni, sausage, and bacon pizzas here! Who else is in?

2014-07-17 07:23:19 AM
Fark him. Pass the bacon

2014-07-17 07:26:28 AM
- surprisingly to me - really easy to do so

I probably woudl miss beef a lot less if I was obscenely rich and had cooks to whip me every other type of awesome food.

FTA:  billionaire business mogul Richard Branson is at least taking a step in the right direction with his recent decision to give up beef.

Emboldenation is mine.  But that's where I stopped reading what is obviously an agenda-driven article.  If you don't want to eat meat, that's your decision.  Stop the sanctimonious smugness that somehow you're right.

I don't take suggestion on how to help the environment from people that travel in their own private jet.

I am sure he buys indulgences offsets so it is ok.

2014-07-17 07:30:12 AM
That's his choice. I don't care what a billionaire eats. I like my bacon.

2014-07-17 07:31:16 AM
Beardie Brandon can go suck a fat pepperoni. Next, the man who owns his own private islands is going to tell everyone that they're the ones who need to sacrifice luxuries to help the homeless, while he has his own fleet of jets, luxury homes, cars, and nigh-unobtainable wealth.

Sounds like an excellent plan for lunch to me.

/Can't recall the last time I had some actual pizza.
//It's early and I've had a lot of beer since then.
///Not last night sadly.
//maybe not, I'm enjoying not having a hangover

2014-07-17 07:40:29 AM
I didn't realize he was a nutritionist. I guess being rich makes up for it.

2014-07-17 07:41:02 AM
14.5%?

If you cut out meat, don't you have to replace it with something else? I'm sure the carbon footprint from 10 grams of lentil protein is smaller than 10 grams of beef protein - but it's not zero.

2014-07-17 07:41:10 AM
Wait subby,

Is he giving me his wealth to do it?

I might consider it for that.

2014-07-17 07:43:39 AM
If he doesn't want to eat beef fine. It leaves more for me. Then again beef consumption affects my livelihood so I'm not happy about people not eating beef.

2014-07-17 07:44:06 AM
I'm going to wrap a steak in bacon and slow cook it in so I can drizzle it with its own juices and toast him with the first hulking fork load that goes into my mouth

Lets say this,

If being raised on a hog farm where I saw at least 60 head of hog ride off to their inevitable demise every two weeks for about 15 years, the animals caked in their own filth, as well as the various stages of death and decay witnessed on the farm (ever seen a dead pig just "fall apart" when you tried to move it, or found yourself dragging the bloated corpse of one out of the manure pit) can't make me stop eating the delicious cooked flesh of an animal, I don't know what will.

/the horrors I have seen....

A single meat type I could consider giving up, maybe two if it was worth it. So beef, pork, poultry or even fish. Need to repopulate the ocean. But not all meat. Unless that research into lab grown meat turned successful and they could grow a giant steak or chicken breast that tastes as good as the original, and is doubly nutritious for tuppence. That'd be great. So come on scienticians... chop chop.

Anyway, someone will come along soon to tell us that switching to a plant based diet will triple global warming in 24 years.

The best thing the west could do for climate change would be to make people pay for all children after the second birth. That is... no free healthcare, no free schooling, no free anything for kids after the first two births. All the pissing around with building windmills and wave technology is dwarfed by the effect of that policy.

The fertility rate in Europe is already below 2. North America is almost exactly 2. Replacement in developed countries is considered somewhere around 2.1.

Don't point out actual demographic trends to people like farkeruk. It might make them realize that their grand, authoritarian plans wouldn't actually help anything at all, and that would hurt their feelings. We can't have them thinking no one actually needs them and their brilliant ideas.

Why is that, sunshine? You figure out what groups are causing population to grow, then you go to those neighborhoods- or the originating countries- and start telling them you want to lock up them ovaries & testicles.

About 75% of US population growth between 2000 & 2010 was due to immigration. I'd wager that much of the "natural birth" increase (the other 25%) was also immigration-driven.

Wait, no - that's wrong. The 75% is immigration plus children of first generation immigrants.

The point is that saying (or implying) the replacement rate is at steady-state while the overall population increases is rather misleading, whether or not it's technically true.

/ sunshine

I didn't say the population was at replacement, I said the fertility rate was (more or less) at replacement. Mostly because some guy said we should fine people for having more than 2 kids, when in reality, very few people who could afford a fine are having more than 2 kids in the first place.

During the summer when garden veggies are plentiful, I have no problem doing meatless dinners a couple of times a week.  However if anyone thinks I'm giving up beef forever, they haven't got the brains God gave a turkey and they'll drown in the rain.
