Wow, as if there isn't any more respect to lose for Texas Tech, they welcome back a guy who knocked a girl out.

"But coach Kilff, she hit ME first. It's just not fair.

The "Bethel is the highest 2014 recruit for Texas Tech" is pretty rich

She probably shouldn't punch a guy in the face first next time.I'll be back in few hours to laugh at the inevitable flame war.

If you RTFA (as well as the article that this one links to), you'll find it's not really asinine - the girl swung and hit first and he retaliated. They're both at fault in this situation, and as a result are both suspended from games, which is what should have happened in the first place.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11220337/nigel-bethel -i i-former-texas-tech-cornerback-not-face-assault-charges

Relevant excerpt:

"As Bethel turned to go back down the court, Battle swung and punched Bethel in the head," Payne said. "Bethel's body language showed he had been struck, and he immediately turned toward Battle and struck her with his right hand on the left side of her face."

Video of said incident (she wasn't knocked out either):  http://thebiglead.com/2014/07/16/nigel-bethel-punch-amber-battle-vide o -charges-dismissed/

She shoved him, he punched her.  If you think it's fair, it's fair.

She didn't shove. She punched.

It's largely blocked by the pole, but it doesn't look like any punch I've ever seen.  She doesn't draw her arm back, and both hands go forward.

But, like I said, if you're cool with it, that's cool.

Only men with inferiority complexes are OK with this, there is very few women that could do actual damage to a man.

And with apologies to Dana White, there is no way Rhonda Rousey could beat a top ranked boxer in any kind of fight.

Decent at reading, though:

From the article linked within TFA:
"As Bethel turned to go back down the court, Battle swung and punched Bethel in the head."

Granted, that's quoted from the guy's attorney after criminal charges were dropped, so we can take that for what its worth.

Bottom line, they both acted stupid, they both apologized, and they both (at least in the end) were punished appropriately.

Women wanted to be treated equally in this world. Woman swings at a man, man swings back. It's only fair.

What the heck? You think that would be a dismissal writeen in stone for his actions, well just like at most schools if you can play football you can get away with more.

Whatever happened to women fighting for equality?

/except when they want you to pick up the check at dinner
//and open their doors
///and cry affirmative action when promotions come around

Lol guess my response was too ambiguous or sarcastic. I'm firmly on the don't hit someone if you don't want to be hit side of the argument.

Probably because you went all cool and didn't quote the person you were snarking.

The "I'm not going to give you the same opportunities, or pay you as much as other people because I'm not allowed to punch you in the face" argument is truly silly.

I'm firmly on the side of "don't hit someone in retaliation" category. Just call the police, have her arrested, done with the situation.

Or don't grab a chick with both hands from behind just because she got position on you and grabbed a rebound making you look like a b*tch, then punch her when she gets mad and pushes you for it.

Or something.

I got lost in there somewhere....

There's more video from this game that the local TV networks got hold of and this wasn't her first physical confrontation in this game.  There's one play where she straight tackles a dude from behind as he's going up for the layup.  Later she's seen shoving Bethel to the ground as he's trying to get up after a play.  The last straw was when she punched (or shoved) him in the face, so he smacked her.

She was, without a doubt, the instigator and had been so for a while (and also apparently has a reputation for roughing up guys during these games).  You can't suspend her for a month and kick him off the team, at least without bringing down a potential lawsuit.

In the context, he shouldn't have hit her. There should have been more than ample opportunities for an absolutely brutal foul in the paint, with the convenient excuse, "I was going for the ball!".

Funny how the guys who say "if women want equality, one punch = one punch..." often don't actually believe in equality for women in the first place.

Is Bobby Knight still with Texas Tech? They hired him after Indiana canned him for his asinine
conduct (throwing chairs, etc.)....or is it Texas "Tetched"?

No you were obviously trolling and if you hit a woman back in public then expect to get a beat down.

2014-07-17 09:01:40 PM
I'm sorry, but both should be kicked out of school. The man SHOULD face criminal charges.

I don't see how it's much different than assault with a weapon when a much, much larger/stronger party hits someone else in retaliation, NOT self-defense.

2014-07-17 09:03:25 PM
And regardless of size, is there even a doubt who could throw a harder punch?

Someone didn't have their guns up.
