No need. Reuters is reporting that the militants have been killed by police. Burn in hell, jackholes.

Kinda weird that between this and the market bombing yesterday no one has claimed responsibility.

Doesn't say if they attacked the FOB side or the civilian terminal side, but sounds like the former as that's where the vast majority of military personnel are located.

North KAIA is the military side, and since the article says they attacked from a building to the north, it seems very likely that it was indeed the military side that got attacked.

Thank him for his service from me and tell him I don't feel that it would be somehow invalidating all the hard work he did if we didn't "try to finish what we started" or whatever the b/s is they're handing out as an excuse.

I don't believe the sunk-cost fallacy.

I'm not a military strategist  but I would think you would need more than 4 people to attack and hold almost any international airport.

Can they not round up 10 or 20 guys?

Of course I'm assuming they wanted to take it over,  not just turn themselves into red splotches on the ground in the name of Ala to get their 72 virgins,  in that case 4 was more than enough.

Given that Afghanistan is nearing the end of Ramazan, I would imagine that this attack has a more symbolic jihad angle to it instead of a serious attempt to takeover the airport. There are thousands of ISAF personnel on that airport. I would doubt that the insurgency would be able to round up enough fighters in the whole country to mount a successful takeover.

Symbolic jihad angle? What does that even mean in that context? Are you saying that as Ramadan is coming to a close they are trying to recruit people? Or....?

I'm saying that they have used the month of Ramazan in the past to increase their attacks. It being a highly spiritual time to the Afghans, those with more violent leanings tend to be more active during that time, perhaps thinking that attacks they commit during that time win them more points with Allah or whatever craziness they believe. It happens often enough like clockwork that US military are given Ramazan briefings leading up to that period to warn us of the increased activity. And anecdotally, attacks have been far more common in country during Ramazan on my deployments.

I think that given the impossibility of a handful of guys taking over KAIA, some other motivation is likely. And this being Ramazan, a time where more attacks with greater showiness happen, it's very possible this has something to do with it.

Obama could have had the US leave in 2009 and Afghanistan in 2030 wouldn't look any different. How many people have died since then because he didn't?

You're probably right.  Believing the "The Surge Worked in Iraq" lie was a mistake.  Fortunately Obama realized his mistake within a year and took a more pragmatic approach afterword.

seriously -- that part of the world has been farked.... farkED i say for hundreds of years. We have sent mountains of guns, food, money, and lives over to that part of the world, and nothing has changed.

You can't fix stupid. And quite frankly I'm tired of hearing about some pissed off group killing and hurting another pissed off group.  Screw them all.
