VA is awful.

2014-07-16 03:53:46 PM
I keep the hope that there is out there among us right now today, people who without fanfare or notoriety are doing the right thing and making the world a better place. This reinforces that and continues that hope.

"that hate for hate only intensifies the existence of hate and evil in the universe. If I hit you and you hit me and I hit you back and you hit me back and go on, you see, that goes on ad infinitum. [tapping on pulpit] It just never ends. Somewhere somebody must have a little sense, and that's the strong person. The strong person is the person who can cut off the chain of hate, the chain of evil. And that is the tragedy of hate, that it doesn't cut it off. It only intensifies the existence of hate and evil in the universe. Somebody must have religion enough and morality enough to cut it off and inject within the very structure of the universe that strong and powerful element of love".  - Martin L. King

There is no excuse for Republicans showboating their pretend "support the troops" and then slashing and burning the VA.

Oh no you don't, buddy. This is Obama's problem and has been for the last 50 years. That's why the Republicans aren't doing anything. Their hands are tied.

Thanks, Obama.

For the record, Lowe's is always dusty.

\but usually slightly cleaner than Home Depot
\\and yeah, cool of the guys to do this

2014-07-16 05:28:35 PM
If I lived there, that would be my default store from now on.

Those guys deserve a medal.  And the VA should be ashamed.

2014-07-16 05:32:33 PM
He should get some of those Titanium legs like Lieutenant Dan.

Great story

/fark the VA.. Such an embarrassment.

2014-07-16 05:34:22 PM
I'll be dammed if I can find a Lowes employee.

To do anything.

Ever.

2014-07-16 05:34:29 PM
Thank you for coming to Lowes, now sit back and relax, and enjoy the show.

2014-07-16 05:35:48 PM
FTA: setting him up with a temporary chair...

Or, as it's commonly known...a chair

/Good on the Lowe's guys....
//But, the reporter's a farktard

2014-07-16 05:36:28 PM
Why give him a new chair?  They fixed the old one.  Nice timing VA.

2014-07-16 05:36:59 PM
I can see this happening in a Lowes. Always got good CS there. Home Depot? Poor gas on it & burn it. Worthless shiat today.

2014-07-16 05:37:00 PM
So... Here's my question about the VA.

We've got politicians right now promising - and others insisting - that we get the wait for services from the VA down from years to merely months. Why do we need them to have a wait at all - or at least a wait any longer than anyone else with health coverage?

This is 2014... We can send vast quantities of information around the globe in seconds, but we can't get a guy scheduled to see a doctor or get a new wheelchair for years. How the fark does that make sense and why would reducing the wait to like 3 months or something be acceptable at all? It makes no sense to me.

2014-07-16 05:37:38 PM
"and if you sign up for a Lowe's credit card today, you can get an additional 5% off your legs, I mean your purchase"

Well, you see citizen, you can't expect us to live up to our part of the whole armed services bargain. Thanks for serving, we post dated your signup date; that way your injuries were a preexisting condition. Click

I haven't shopped at Lowes since they pulled their advertising during that short-lived American Muslim "reality" show because some "Christian" group from Florida protested it. Lowes yanked their support before even bothering to figure out that the "Christian" group was really just one guy.

/I'm not a Muslim
//I never would have watched that show
///I was livid that some religious Floridiot nutball was basically able to shut a TV show down and the company was stupid enough to let it happen
////I live in NC too, where Lowes comes from

2014-07-16 05:45:11 PM
I was waiting for the part where the employees got fired for not following company policy.

2014-07-16 05:45:17 PM
I would never go to Lowe's.

This is the chain that pulled sponsorship from the show All-American Muslim. The 'tard group Florida Family Association complained that Lowe's was supporting terrorists...

Having worked in retail, I'm not surprised. Bored as hell all day, mind numbing tedium, then someone has an interesting problem that you can actually help with? Tons of people in any store I worked at would want to get in on that, and it's not like retail workers have anything better to do on a Monday night.

2014-07-16 05:48:24 PM
yeah, that pdf from the VA sure makes me look wrong.

2014-07-16 05:48:43 PM
Did they put the guy on layaway until his chair was fixed?

Seriously - Good on Lowes' employees.  Lowes>HD

So what you're saying (and implicitly omitting his link) is that the 90 billion dollar increase since 2006 which has more than doubled their budget is inaccurate? Or is it just not enough. At what point will we give enough?

2014-07-16 05:49:19 PM
Too bad it cost an arm and a leg to get on or off the island.

2014-07-16 05:49:43 PM
Such BS.

We did this stuff all the time at home depot. Volunteered every week to help fix walkers.. wheelchairs.. ramps.. stuff like that for the needy in the area.. or just the ones who came into the store.

Difference is, we didn't brag about it to the media. We just did it because it was the right thing to do.

I'm glad they helped the guy... but whenever I read a story about it I wonder why anyone says anything about it. This should be (and is) commonplace

You know what--don't bother replying I'm not going to entertain your notions. It distracts from good people doing a good deed that the government, in the form of the VA wouldn't do. Your government God could only help out after they had been shamed. It was those (likely) dirty Christians or just some plain folks with compassion that did in 45 minutes what your government couldn't do in several years.

Since Republitards took the presidency (Bush) we've seen a huge influx in this population called "veterans"

Not that Republitards have anything to do with it. Oh wait they did.

What's my government God? Oh you mean you hate the US, love the flag and only pretend to love veterans after making so many of them.

Yeah, if you don't like any government, that's called anarchy. Go live in Somalia, please.

I was a General Building Contractor at the time :)

They lost thousands of dollars just from me alone. I would drive to a less convenient hardware store to avoid Lowe's at all costs. Who knows how many others felt the same (just look upthread).

I'm sure their doing fine. But they could be doing even better, if they had any balls.

Because the "who gets to pay for it" buck gets passed repeatedly.

The veteran doesn't want to (and deservedly shouldn't have to) pay for medical care necessitated by service.

The doctor/healthcare provider/insurance company don't want to pay, since the compensation provided by VA cases is low. (Yes, I'm aware this is a vast oversimplification.)

The VA doesn't want to pay, because it's not a life threatening condition- it's a quality of life issue. When it comes down to a lifesaving operation or getting someone a new chair, the priority is pretty clear. The VA also doesn't want to pay because they're strapped for cash as is (despite huge capital infusions; running a decade long campaign will run up some medical bills, mmmkay?)

So it turns into this "give me money/no we won't/yes you will I need it/ok then prove it buddy" circlejerk while some poor bastard literally rots away.

I'm not defending this practice, I'm just describing it. It's despicable. I'd much rather we cared for our veterans than Mary Lou Hamplanet who decided that eating healthy just wasn't for her and she now needs $10,000 worth of gub'mint dialysis a month or she'll die.

You give me hope for the species. I'm willing to bet most if not all stores in both chains have similar habits. I don't think this would have been publicly known if the vet in this case hadn't gone to the press.

And the VA needs to get its farking act together.

2014-07-16 06:19:15 PM
I've never had a problem with the VA or the military medicine in general.  Sure they took out my appendix when I had a kidney stone, but fark it - they eventually figured it out.

There's nothing magic here.  If you want instant service and don't want to do paperwork, then just give up and complain.  If you can follow farking instructions and have reasonable expectations, you'll probably do okay.

They are out there. Or should I say, we are out there. Our family has "adopted" a friend who needs lots of help. Any more detail than that, and I'm definitely bragging. I'm dangerously close to that, and I'm not supposed to do that.

sadly, in order to get things done you have to shame companies in the court of public opinion.  but at least it is effective.

no such thing as bad PR?  good luck, VA, with your 'too little, too late' efforts on repairing any bad will/reputation you are synonymous with now.

This has been his problem for the last 50 years??? How in the world can that be? Did he become head of the VA or something at two years old?

No, it's the whole friggin management/government or whatever you want to call it. This is beyond party lines. Both sides will lie and shoot themselves in the foot to make the other guy look bad.
Fire them all, and start over.
