Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only $20 per person. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and peace they lack. And they'll walk out to the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll watch the game and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

"I ordered him to drop the bat as I was drawing my Taser," an officer said, according to the police report. "He said something to the effect of, 'What ya going to do?'"
Jones fled, and his body was later found in a lake, presumed drowned.

There seems to be a few steps missing from that police report. They just let him run away, after finding him covered with blood, carrying a baseball bat? Uh huh.

They may not have an official diagnosis, and are covering their asses from a lawsuit by the estate of the guy.

You DO realize he was quoting Terence Mann from Field of Dreams (played by James Earl Jones), right? Right?

2014-07-16 01:36:36 PM
FTFA: A LifeStream official told the Sentinel she did not have any specific information about James Earl Jones, but that people are evaluated to "assess whether they're a threat to themselves or to others."

Think it's time to overhaul your evaluation protocols.

Other headline I love, "Man drowns while fishing". I thought, BS, at some point he gave up fishing and drowned while trying to swim.

Mjeck: why is schizophrenic in quotes?

FTA:
"His father Albert Jones told the Sentinel that his son was "schizophrenic," and that family members tried to get him into a LifeStream center several times, including the same day of the murders.
"Just wanted to let the public know that LifeStream turned him away," Albert

Lady at the facility told the Sentinel she did not have any specific information about James Earl Jones, but that people are evaluated to "assess whether they're a threat to themselves or to others.""

Sounds like the newspaper doesn't want to be sued by LifeStream for saying that the dude was 'schizophrenic', when it could have been Multiple Personality Disorder, or just Delusional Paranoia caused by Bipolar Disorder.

Untreated Schizophrenia is probably one of their rules saying "Must be brought in and assessed for 24 hours if diagnosed as cause of illness", but Bipolar Disorder might not be*.

Basically the newspaper wants to quote the family, and not be held liable for what htey printed about hte company. This way they can say it was just what the family said, not them.

*I'm sorry, but Bipolars need to be committed until they are taking their meds regularly, and there needs to be a way to get those who are threatening harm to their families in for an overnight observation stay, but not have it be a committal necessarily.
/I have an Aunt with Bipolar. During one episode, she taped knives to the outside of the windows of my grandparents house so they could "Cut their way out of the house when it burns down" and they're inside.
//During another she accused her sister, husband and mother of having naked orgies in the front yard and trying to get her children to join them, and said on Facebook she was going to shoot her husband when he got home from work for doing that.
///All calls to the police(my family, their neighbors, grandparents, family friends- essentially the WHOLE COMMUNITY) got one drive by, and one officer talking to her for all of 2 minutes before driving off.

Luckily, some of her other friends came by, and stayed with her and talked with her, until a social worker was obtained, and she was sent to the hospital for a few weeks.

Have you seen the physical conditioning of your average local cop? There probably was no "let him run" involved Coppy McDoughtnutmuncher was probably two seconds from a coronary just getting his tazer free of his gut overlap...
