I'd get my hair cut at a mechanic before going to Quaker Steak & Lube.

I doubt it, because I only let women or gay guys cut my hair.

2014-07-16 10:46:10 AM
Well there's your problem right here....you've got too much hair on your head.

2014-07-16 10:48:29 AM
I don't think that's the kind of head job I want

"I've been in barbershops where they have game rooms, they have internet cafes," Lucca said.

I wish they had that in New Jersey, just a pinball machine or two (hopefully one will be that new Jersey Jack Pinball machine The Hobbit) is all I ask for some diversion while I wait for my appointment (after being the spontaneous one and making an appointment at the desk instead of over the phone).

So you don't like your steak lubed before you put it in your body? Good to know.

Bite the pillow, I'm going in dry.

I prefer the dentist / mechanic shop I go to.

I'd trust almost anyone to cut my hair. Trusting them to cut it well is a different matter altogether.

No big hair!

I bris sideline would have been more appropriate for a muffler shop.

How often do you really need your Muffler worked on?  Wouldn't this business model work better if he also offered oil changes, and tire service?  I could see deciding to get my hair cut while waiting for my car to be worked on, or getting my oil changed while going to the barber, if it was convenient to do both at the same time.

As I've gotten older, I've learned spending a good hour with an attractive stylist providing me beer and massaging my scalp is well worth the cost.

Oil change / muffler fixed and a haircut?  I think the real problem is some people have not had the above experience.

Not too far from me is an upscale gentleman's spa. I've never been there, but it is supposed to be quite lux. You can get haircuts, massages, manicures, etc. It also has a gym, steam rooms and saunas, and and a bar. They do not provide services to women; strictly men only.

Though one thing about this story is good, it's an actual businessman with a "think outside the box" idea. If it was a trust fund hipster's business, the haircut would cost more than the muffler repair and both would turn out very badly!

I don't need the beer, but I'd pay just for the mint stuff tingly scalp massage.  I almost fall asleep every time.

There's one tire installer at the Costco near me... she can rotate my tires any time IYKWIMAITYDNNWW.

/ironically they don't actually rotate tires at Costco. Install them, yes. Rotate and balance, no. Weird.

You might be lucky enough to have ASMR (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_sensory_meridian_response)

Depending on your triggers, there are YouTube videos and a subreddit that can help give you a response at home.

I get a mild ASMR, so I have that going for me, which is nice.

/I don't YouTube or reddit the triggers though... seems a little weird
//used to get a huge response from the electric hair trimmer

I love ASMR vids. I'm a particular fan of the following YouTube channels:

- ASMR Requests (high production values, very original scenarios - the Departure series is my fave)
- Heather Feather (extensive and elaborate scenarios, with multiple triggers and pop culture references for the geek in me)
- Fairy Char ASMR (that woman is adorable as hell)
- MissBunnyWhispers (love that British accent)
- GentleWhispering (original ideas, Russian language vids - hearing accents/foreign languages is a big trigger for me)
- TheOneLilium (voice/accent (Finnish, I think), original scenarios)
- WhispersRedASMR (again, dat Brit accent)
- WhisperCrystal (one of the first ASMR channels; wonderful Turkish accent and very relaxing voice - sadly, she doesn't produce any more videos)

There used to be a place in Lutz, Florida called Ken & Ed's Bar & Garage. I think the idea was to get you liquored up before they handed you the bill for your repair.

Given that the style I use is something I can do myself without even needing a mirror, sure.  Why not.

Back when I had a substantial quantity of hair most of the time I suppose maybe not so much.

If you want to try the baseline ASMR experience on YouTube, search for any "cranial nerve examination" videos in the first four channels I've mentioned. If you have a medical fetish, you'll be in tingle heaven. Another favourite of mine is GentleWhispering's gentleman's suit fitting session.

A few miles from me, I can buy ammo, fish bait and get a hair cut in a red barn.  As for this business, cool idea since guys seem to like getting errands ran instead of doing a lot of running.  And barber shops are a lot more interesting to hang out in than just another garage waiting room.

2014-07-16 08:23:35 PM
I get a flat top. You'd think it would be the easiest cut in the world, right after "shave me bald", but it is really hard to get a good one. Most people do it lopsided or leave weird looking bumps and stuff. Once I find a barber who can give me a decent one, I stick with them until they move out of state.

The other problem is that I need a haircut every 3 weeks and I need car maintenance about 3 times a year. Doesn't really work well for me.
