Ironic isn't it. Giant jumbo jets, the least likely things to fly, are rediculously safe, surviving even total engine failure in some cases, like the Gimli Glider.

Meanwhile tiny prop planes, which weigh a lot less like birds and other animal fliers, crash all over the place.

Or they're trolls. Judging from Fark's politics threads 2% is a pretty low number.

Flying a private plane just to have breakfast in another city, and then returning later to go boating on a brand new boat. Tragic, but forgive me if I can't donate to help an obviously wealthy family.

Tiny prop planes, or Kennedy Killers, are more often flown by amateurs and often go without the regular maintenance that larger planes have. Plus, this one was about 50 years old. I'm attributing this one to pilot error.

I've never understood why groups of grown men who are related decide to risk their lives together, apparently not giving a shiat about the ramifications of their dying while trying to find the ultimate French dip. The earning capacity of those families just plummeted, not to mention the emotion devastation these idiots dropped on their families.

/yeah, yeah but if your car develops mechanical failure, you pull over.
/And then get rear-ended by a doped-up trucker who hasn't slept in 37 hours.

Flying a plane that costs less than the average used car and I saw nothing in the article about the boat being new. Two children without fathers or a grandfather seems kinda shiatty to me.

I'm gonna guess these families had some pretty tasty life insurance....but sadly most standard insurance doesn't cover messing about in general aviation craft.  You can get the fancy life insurance from AOPA, though.  Hopefully the old man carried it.

No I'm implying the earning capacity of those families just plummeted because 6 possible employees was just reduced to 3 possible employees with probable increased daycare and other child related costs.. But I'll accept insensitive ignorance. It's my middle name.

There should be a law against privately owned assualt planes.
Nobody needs their own private assualt (death machine) plane when so many other forms of transportation are available. America needs to wake up and start banning these airborne killing devices and heavily regulate the pilots.

Flying in your father-in-law's old prop plane just to get breakfast in an airport café?

When I married and started a family I sold my motorcycle. I'm a safe rider, but I know that my chances of being killed on that thing were way higher than while taking the train.

Not sure why a father of two pregnant daughters (with one due the same day) would decide to do something that carried an inherent risk.

When my fathers engineering firm was still a thing, it was the policy of the company, and the insurance agency, that no two principles in the organization were allowed to fly on the same plane together.

If my wife and I had kids, and if she and I were to go on a vacation separate from those children, I would also make it a policy that the two of us did not fly on the same aircraft. sounds a bit paranoid I am sure.

of course.. this was a grand dad, taking the two sons-in-law out on a bonding trip, a trip that the man has flown a zillian times before. it was routine, and no big deal. until that damn peskey piper cub eating tree decides to jump out at you
