Someone use this as an excuse to kill that AintItCoolNews site. Raze it to the ground. I'm sure they probably had something to do with it, plus their site makes Drudge look like the NY Times...

Awww, give poor Harry a break
or at least get out of his way if he's hungry ;)

Good news, though. Brosnan is a good Bond (imo)
I'm still rooting on Paul or Matthew MacFayden to be his replacement, when he decides to hang up the shaker.

2004-02-14 04:53:15 AM
So I take it that Brendan Fraser has no chance now?

2004-02-14 04:56:58 AM
make up your mind already!

Am I the only one that doesn't like these films (particularly the Brosnan era where reality has really taken a backseat). I only made it through the first 5 minutes of the last one, on HBO thankfully.

2004-02-14 05:05:26 AM
DAMN. I was really hoping to see Bono as the 007.

2004-02-14 05:06:50 AM
I must say I was a bit surprised when I saw the first headline yesterday, as I had recently done a translation which was somewhat connected with the next Bond film, and it mentioned appearances by Pierce Brosnan.

He's not a bad Bond, not as good as George Lazenby, but I prefer him to Timothy Dalton.

2004-02-14 05:08:52 AM
I bet Corin Nemec would be a good Bond. Abraham Benrubi would make a good Bond villian of some kind or another.

2004-02-14 05:10:37 AM
hahaha
"James Bond can't lose" does have a certain ring to it.

2004-02-14 05:11:38 AM

Damn. There go my hopes of a 21-century multicultural diverse James Bond.

Not to start a flamewar, but I thought the Brosnan bond films had a better grasp on reality than most, if not all of the Moore bond films

2004-02-14 05:19:46 AM
I haven't seen a Bond movie since GoldenEye, which I think I enjoyed.

Should I bother with the ones that have followed? The last one looked especially awful.

2004-02-14 05:23:04 AM
Timothy Dalton was a great Bond. Was hoping Jason Statham would get a shot at the part.

what in the hell brought up Parker Lewis? Damn, I kinda miss that show...

2004-02-14 05:28:55 AM
Damn, I am slowly winning them over... perhaps I will someday receive parker lewis can't lose on dvd if I can build an army demanding it...

brings up Parker Lewis quite often, actually. No idea why. I'm just glad he's not on a "Square Pegs" kick.

Because IGN, a video game website, is a trusted name in news...

okay, not that anyone gives a crap, but here's my views on Bond. This is so I do just this post and not 500 posts...

Sean Connery - The Original Bond, the one to gauge all Bonds by. If you don't like Connery's Bond, then you don't like James Bond.

George Lazenby - Good actor, but I find his Bond to be boring, I have trouble staying awake for O.H.M.S.S.

Roger Moore - Great wit, but over-all a little over the top. This also may be due to everything else in the story being "over the top". Great Actor and a good Bond.

Timothy Dalton - I think he comes off as a little too "edgy". I always thought he felt more american than british.

Pierce Brosnan - Great actor, a good combination of Connery's style and Moore's wit. All-around a good Bond for the modern setting.

/gonna try shutting up now

Goldeneye was my favorite one but, the next three ones are not especially awful. They make good popcorn flicks.

I personally think Pierce Brosnan is one of the best Bonds. He has great charisma and on-screen presence and is almost comparable to Connery.

2004-02-14 05:35:16 AM
The one to GOUGE all Bonds by?

Oh, GAUGE...gouging them would've been more fun

2004-02-14 05:45:27 AM
Guage got gouged? Dalton is Bond 4 Lyfe!

2004-02-14 05:48:11 AM
Maybe they renewed the contract once they realized everyone else sucks.

2004-02-14 05:53:01 AM
Curses! Foiled again!

2004-02-14 05:59:13 AM
"Live & Let Die' was the best Bond movie. It had a great boat chase plus the "Crips-N-Clean-with-No-Caffine" guy. It is the movie to gauge all others.

2004-02-14 06:10:42 AM
The New Bond.

2004-02-14 06:13:18 AM

you're the man now, dog

2004-02-14 06:19:56 AM
I always thought that Dalton was the best Bond - in that he was closer to the darker Bond from the books. I'd *really* like to see the next generation of Bond films become a lot more sinister. Also bring back Xenia Onatopp; my pants runneth over.

With that said, Connery played the best character. If that makes sense.

Shplendid.

2004-02-14 06:29:36 AM
Jesus christ, people. Get a hold of yourselves.

Pierce Brosnan is the "new bond".

Sean Connery will always be James Bond.

2004-02-14 06:42:06 AM
So then ... this was basically a contract ploy?

2004-02-14 06:47:49 AM
Sean Connery will always be James Bond.

not in my book he won't

2004-02-14 06:55:59 AM
The problem is less with who plays Bond and more with who play the Villains. We haven't had any memorable ones for a long time. Just gadgets and explosions.

Bring back Sheriff J W Pepper!

2004-02-14 07:38:37 AM
Did someone say Parker Lewis?

Back to the post. I heard rumor that Fred Durst might have been the next 007. Hurray for Pierce!

2004-02-14 07:51:49 AM

"Awww, now I'll never survive the stigma of Obi-Wan!"

2004-02-14 07:58:42 AM
Here is how the Bonds stack up:

#1: Sean Connery (Always and forever the best.)
#2: Pierce Brosnan
#3: Roger Moore
#4: George Lazenby (Laugh all you want, he looked the part, and that movie had one of the best story lines of the franchise. Just really crappy production value.)
#5: Timothy Dalton (He just didn't look the part to me.)

This list is difinitive. No arguing allowed. That is all.

2004-02-14 08:04:39 AM
You omitted David Niven "Casino Royale". ;)

2004-02-14 08:09:50 AM
Timothy Dalton was HORRIBLE. Roger Moore was adequate at best. What kills me is that Roger Moore is acctually OLDER than Sean Connery. Sean Connery was the best. Pierce Brosnan is great but only Goldeneye and Die Another Day are really watchable. It depends on who directs the movie. Lee Tamahori did a great job with Die Another Day. I really wish they would get John Woo or Antoine Fuqua to direct a Bond Movie.

2004-02-14 08:17:43 AM
Die Another Day was the worst bond to date, and it had stiff competition from the previous two entries. Goldeneye was ace though. The studio need to have a serious think about the next film before they run one of the most successful film franchises of all time into the ground. Dougray Scott would be a great 007.

And Roger Moore is the best James Bond. Fact.

Tomcat1108

That's because Roger Moore was the producers' preferred choice to play Bond, but he was doing The Saint at the time.

2004-02-14 08:26:49 AM
I have a very clear and very funny memory of sitting in a theatre during the 1st run of one of Moore's Bonds. At one point he reaches over and fingers his watch dial and --- A DIGITAL LED DISPLAYS THE TIME!!! The audience went nuts, ooing and ahhing. People talked about it the next day. The watches were like 1-2,000 bucks back then. Now they pass'em out in boxes of cereal.

2004-02-14 08:27:47 AM
Pierce Brosnan was actually the favorite to take over for Moore, but he couldn't, due to Remington Steele. So they went for Dalton instead. Incase you didn't know that.

2004-02-14 08:29:01 AM
(preferred choice instead of Connery)

Radiojay37

Mmm. I think the studio also said that Brosnan was to young for the part.

It was actually NBC that told Brosnan he couldn't do Bond because of Remington Steele. Then, having cost him the shot at Bond, they canceled the show before another episode was made. One of the all time huge Hollywood screw jobs.

"You omitted David Niven "Casino Royale". ;)"

It is an acceptable and expected practice to politely ignore David Niven's foray into the 007 franchise.

John Woo is one of the worst directors I have ever seen. He is loud, repetitive, wire-dependent, and has the maturity of a 13 year old.

so, if you want another "Tom Cruise: Spy Boy" or Cage/Travolta posefest, then fine.

2004-02-14 08:44:29 AM
Die Another Day was Crap with a capital C. Halle Berry, while mostly a good actress, was the worst.Bond girl.evar. And Madonna in a Bond movie??? You have GOT to be kidding me. I wonder who decided THAT would be a good idea.

John Woo or Antoine Fuqua would be great to direct a Bond film. John Woo has a great history of action films with brains. I would LOVE to see what he'd do with Bond.

And RavinDave: you're showing your age, honey. :)

P.S. and PSA: Sean Connery was, is, and always will be the first, the last, the everything when it comes to Bond.
/end rant

2004-02-14 08:47:57 AM
g0dzilla:

John Woo, if given the chance to direct a Bond film, would have no say over the cast. Therefore, no Tom Cruise/Nick Cage/John Travolta BS fest.
