You could have posted the original article sited in Tucker's rag. But it's a lot more nuanced and a lot less, OMGBama! That;s not what you were going for, eh, subs?

From the original article:

"Like many public hospital systems, Cook County Health frequently operates at a deficit, though the shortfall has narrowed consistently since at least 2011. That shortfall is made up by Cook County taxpayers."

and

"CountyCare generated nearly $118 million in new revenue in 2013 and is estimated to bring in about $655 million by Nov. 30, the end of the current fiscal year. But the program also served up lessons in managing expenses.

Cook County Health anticipates reimbursing the federal government $33.5 million for money it didn't end up spending on CountyCare in 2013. The county fears a $29 million loss due to a lower reimbursement rate from the federal government, though state officials say the loss might not happen. CountyCare likely will be reimbursed at a higher rate than what it's receiving now, based on figures the state submitted to the federal government, pending approval."

Except that's not really what the cited article says.

I can also pick and chose quotes to prove the opposite point:

Many of the roughly 95,000 people enrolled have insurance for the first time, which means Cook County Health could get reimbursed rather than having to subsidize their treatment as charity care.

They won't have to cover as many expenses as they have in the past, making calculating the budget difficult.

CountyCare likely will be reimbursed at a higher rate than what it's receiving now, based on figures the state submitted to the federal government, pending approval.

They expect the increase to cover some of the difference.

"We fully expect (Cook County Health) to close their budget gap," Ms. Preckwinkle's press secretary, Karen Vaughan, says in a statement.

The hospital is not administered by morons and therefore will figure out how to balance their budget.

"The cost of caring for the influx of Medicaid patients has busted projections partially because the newly insured are seeking pricier medical care than expected."

NEWS FLASH: Uninsured poor were sicker than expected. CANCEL OBAMACARE!!!! LET THEM DIE.

/seriously, so the estimate sucked. do you think that really means that we should take the insurance away from poor people?
/the thing that the GOP really understands, is now that Obamacare is in full swing, it will become yet another 3rd rail. Something that they can never get rid of.

What are you blathering about?

This is a factual statement: "In 2008, just before 0bama was sworn in as President, gasoline was $1.86 a gallon.  Today, the price of gas is nearly double that."

Nothing misleading.  Just the facts.

So let's compare subby's lie "This new expansion of Medicaid is so 0bamically wonderful were going to make millions" to:

Shannon told Crain's that the county had "unrealistic expectations" that CountyCare would be "some kind of profit center" for the public health system.

 and compare it to:

Pelosi said."Repeal of all the things I said that help children, help young adults, help seniors, help men or women who may have prostate cancer, breast cancer, whatever it is, any precondition.  And everybody will have lower rates, better quality care and better access."

"I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American and cut the cost of a typical family's premium by up to $2,500 a year."

"If you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them. If you like your health care plan, you can keep that too."

"Under the reform we seek, if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your private health insurance plan, you can keep your plan. Period."

"Nothing I'm proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime,"

Your outrage seems misplaced.

Obama's version of "universal health care" was innaccurate. It doesn't cover everybody universally. He failed to predict the future outcome, even though he has that gdamn time machine.

Do you know what would have done exactly that? Single Payer, or in other words, Medicare for all! Do you know why it wasn't even on the table? Because the conservatives would never be able to be convinced to vote for something so positive. Notice I didn't say Republicans, I said conservatives, including the blue-dogs who were voted out and replaced with Tea Party conservatives.

As to "you can keep your doctor and you're rates will go down" (paraphrased. between the lot of em)

My rates are lower. I've kept all of my doctors. If I lose my insurance I am guaranteed to be accepted by the first insurer I apply to, the one I chose. Nothing in The Affordable Care Act has caused anybody to lose their doctors, because there's no mechanism in the law that does so. If the insurers want to change something that causes you to lose your doctor, then take it up with your insurer.

Also, the affordable care act has not increased the deficit.

namatad: so the estimate sucked

The estimate sucked by design. It's classic politics - roll out a blue-sky scenario to get buy-in, then when it's too late to back out, drop the "unexpected" real numbers on people.

cost much more than expected

2014-07-15 07:58:53 PM
cost much more than expected
that's expected to balloon
expected to pad the city's coffers
cost of caring for the influx of Medicaid patients has busted projections
already failed to meet budget projections
is likely to get worse in 2015
could leave the expanded Medicaid program to cover patients with the most expensive health problems
If the public health system loses more inexpensive patients next year, the budget crunch will get even worse
the county had "unrealistic expectations"
But Cook County officials were far from alone in thinking the federal funding would boost

All I see is a bunch of people guessing at what is going to happen.

Oh, more critical hype about the ACA?  Illinois, let's see what the numbers say...

217,492 signed up through HealthCare.gov, of an estimated 369,696 that were eligible to sign up.  You can add half of that number again for sign ups through private insurance channels.

So about 322k individuals and families that now have insurance in Illinois.  All middle class (kind of).

Keep beating that drum that the ACA is bad republicans, it's going to kill you when you find out how many people are insured through the ACA

/Hint: over 2.5% of Americans have bought a plan through the federal and state exchanges, avg household size is about 2.6, so about 6.5% of Americans have been directly affected by the ACA

Let's keep hating on those republican states that refused the Medicaid expansion.  Now is the time to do that.

2014-07-16 08:54:33 AM
Advocates of the Medicaid expansion nationwide regularly castigate states that have decided against expanding the welfare program. The White House recently released a report attempting to shame states for refusing $88 billion in "free" federal taxpayer funding to expand Medicaid - but Cook County's experience suggests states may not be able to count on the programs remaining free.

well of course.  nothing is ever *free*.  it is so deceptive.
