Give him some work on the Daredevil TV show.

It was Smith's run that revitalized the character after 10 years of no one caring.

Did he ever finish  Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do ?

schnee: Did he ever finish  Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do ?

Yeah, somewhere around 2007 or 2008. I remember the Hardcover collection coming out.

Now, was Widening Gyre the end of his Batman stories? Wasn't there supposed to be an other mini after that, or did the crap 52 kill that?

2014-07-15 10:37:19 AM
They would but he seems to be really hung up on super hero sex organs.

2014-07-15 10:38:07 AM
No, they shouldn't. He's a burned-out stoner now. He made some great movies. Now...I don't think he's got it in him. He's more focused on getting high.

Are they still looking for a director for Ant Man after Edgar Wright left?
That seems like a good fit.

What property, The punisher maybe?  Moon Knight?

It's not like he'd actually get any creative control

2014-07-15 12:42:43 PM
No, I want to watch a movie where the camera actually moves.

Deadpool. Metacommentary and violence.

Absolutely not.  If he wanted to write for one, I'd be ok, but not direct. He is not a director. His actions scenes would blow.

Mister Fantastic's neck wouldn't break in his version.

After they pretty much refused to let Edgar Wright do his vision of Ant Man , why would they let Kevin Smith make a version of anything? It would be the same situation.

1) I love Kevin Smith, but he's not the same guy anymore.  Yeah, he's been experimenting with different genres, but they are really just weird flights of fancy most of the time.  A horror film where a guy gets turned into a walrus by a psychopath?

2) He's too damn stoned all the time.  Sure, he gets more confident and experimental, but his stuff is completely unfocused now.  See #1.

3) He isn't really an action director.  Granted, he's gotten a second director in the past to handle action sequences.  But he'd be far more suited to do an episode of Arrow or something if he was to tackle the live action superhero.  Lower expecations.

4) Smith himself has said that he doesn't want to do a super hero flick, and that he thinks he would be a terrible choice for it anyway.  He is all about dialog and character building through said dialog.  And unlike Whedon, his characters need a full conversation to get there, instead of a short and sweet one punctuated with really awesome snark.

I wouldn't mind seeing his Daredevil or Green Arrow storylines adapted, but have him be a writer not a director.

That's kind of the thing. I mean the closest thing he has ever done to an action movie, is probably the Fly Fatass Fly Scene in Mallrats and that was almost 20 years ago.

Red State was a big improvement for him. There were some half decent gunfight scenes.

I'd kind of like to see Guy Ritchie have a go at a Marvel movie. Maybe Dr. Strange, or Punisher. Yeah, Vinnie Jones as Punisher. Oh god, a stand alone Juggernaut movie, for Netflix or Crackle, starring Vinnie Jones, directed by Guy Ritchie. Oh, and someone should get Elizabeth Banks to play Captain Marvel.

Might work better as a TV show tie-in with AoS...

I could handle a Kevin Smith take on Terror, Inc.

WTH is Terror, Inc? Well, he was a 90s Grimdark-type assassin who was basically a perpetually rotting corpse. He got around that by stealing limbs from the living. He gained abilities from the limbs he stole. The comic was incredibly violent, but the character was funny and really didn't DO a whole lot.

I could see that playing to a lot of Smith's strengths, plus it's a property that absolutely no one gives a crap about.
And Fox owns the film rights to Deadpool anyway.

If this was 15 years ago and the Hawkeye in the movies was like the Hawkeye in the comics I would say give him a West Coast Avengers movie. Unfortunately I don't have the faith in Smith I once did and the Hawkeye character as Renner plays him isn't really set up for that kind of a movie anyways.

I'm a big fan of Kevin in that he made a name for himself by being bootstrappy and whatnot in his early pursuits.   But the thing is - and I know I'm gonna get some flack for this - his movies just plain suck for the most part.  There was nothing good about Mallrats, Clerks or Clerks II.  Jay and Silent Bob was stupid.  I honestly though Zack and Miri could have been a big hit if it hadn't been so over the top in just a couple of sections (Mewe's balls, for example).  Dogma would be the only exception because it had a great cast, but as long as he keep putting himself, his wife and his childhood friends in the lead rolls, his stuff will never be anything other than mediocre at best.  And now he's just a guy who seems to think weed, sandwiches and residual checks are all he needs, so I just don't see this happening.  I think the best thing he could do is write scripts and let someone else take over the directing and casting.  I've always enjoyed the ideas behind his stuff, just always thought he failed in the execution.

He's said that he doesn't want a super hero  movie.

He said if he had control of the Justice League, they'd all sit around talking about X-Men comics.

That scene made me laugh a lot two. A big part of it was it was something that seemed fresh and new, not just a rehash of something from the first Clerks movie.

No. I like Kevin Smith the person. The one man shows I've seen of his on Netflix are good. His movies, with the exception of Red State, are terrible. Let him write the script if you want but keep him away from the director's chair.
