And "The Saga Begins."

Al was allowed to graduate with his BS under the condition that he NOT sit the exam to get a license to practice the field he studied.  Hasn't hurt him much.

This is one of my favorite videos with him. He doesn't even sing.

Best tambourine performance EVER.

I introduced my inner-city Hispanic students to Weird Al when I was teaching music. They absolutely LOVED him. They liked "White And Nerdy," then I showed them some other stuff. Those kids had good taste.

Which is somehow three times better than the actual prequels.

How could they miss "Jurassic Park"?  Heathens.

i don't really care what his best video is, but i've gotten into some pretty serious arguments about what his funniest original song is.  personally i've always felt that "i remember larry" is the funniest original song he's ever written.  "one more minute" is probably a close second, but there are lots of contenders.

Missing Dare to be Stupid and Amish Paradise.

laughin: WHAT? No "Amish Paradise?"

FAIL!

That is a pretty big ommission. I read a Weird Al interview/article last night where he talks about his favourite songs. Even with the whole Coolio deal he still thinks Amish Paradise is one of his favourite videos.

I also learned that for the Fat video, Michael Jackson and his people actually let Al use the real set from Bad.

'The Saga Begins' is full of win.

"And the Jedi I admire most

Brilliant!

Growing up in the 80's when MTV played actual music, AND being a huge Dire Straits & Beverly Hillbillies fan, I've also had a soft spot for

Only question I ever thought was hard
Was do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?
I spend every weekend at the Renaissance Faire

Fun fact:  Mark Knopfler only permitted the parody on the condition he play guitar on it.

2014-07-15 09:28:56 AM
My favorite of his was "Frank's 2000 inch TV".  A mostly forgotten b-side song from the same album as Jurassic Park.  Had that one stuck in my head for like a year.

Beyond that, "Albuquerque".  But he's hilarious pretty much no matter what.

2014-07-15 09:29:28 AM
I preferred the mockery of our neighbors to the north in "Canadian Idiot," but also because Donnie Osmond isn't funny and I find his dancing distracting.

TFA is a moron. That shiat was awesome. The signed ROTFLOL was great.

Of course I am sure it doesn't hurt when the people who originally wrote the songs (at least the music) start collecting royalty cheques from Al's sales.

In his interview with NPR, Weird Al mentions how all these years later, people still ask him if he writes and performs his own songs. What a stupid, stupid thing to ask him. Some of his best material - if not all of his best material, if I'm being perfectly controversial - is his original work, and before I had ever even watched a minute of Jeopardy!, this single, that I still remember listening to after I picked the cassette up at a garage sale for a quarter when I was young enough that a quarter was like $10 to me, made me want to be a contestant on the show.

Does this chick think 'I lost on Jeopardy' is an original piece? Or is her narrative just all over the place here?

Along the lines of "Perform this Way," there has always been some confusion surrounding Nirvana's acceptance of this parody. According to Weird Al, who spoke to Cobain personally to ask for permission, the Nirvana frontman was cool with it and actually wanted the song to be about food, like Al's other megahits.

Once again, she doesn't have the story quite right. Cobain not only "thought it was cool", he said that that is how he knew Nirvana were going places. 'Once you've been parodied by Weird Al, you know you've made it' is the gist of his actual comments.

As a side tip, I encourage anyone who gets the chance to go see Al in concert. It's one of the best concerts I've seen.
