Joanie Faircloth says she pressed her claim publicly for 6 months.  But now she says, "I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son's illness."

What the holy fark?  Was it that difficult for this guy to refute the accusation? Ask for a detail, any detail, and you can probably refute it.

She claimed it happened 11 years ago.  I think most people would be hard pressed to come up with irrefutable specifics about a random night over a decade in the past.   All that would be required is that they were reasonably in the same place at the same time.

And yes, this sucks for people who've been raped.   She'll be added to a deck of cards douchebags shuffle when they want to extrapolate this event to every rape case.  At least she realizes that now.

I know the parties involved. Last year when these anonymous allegations came out I knew it was a bullsh*t call and I knew who made it.
Glad to see it is on it's way to being fixed.
Joanie doesn't have 1.2 mill. She wasn't raped, nor was she in a position where she could have been.

This happened back in February, but some MRAs need vindication. It's not news, it's The Spearhead.com.

... and if that weren't enough to really get your fedoras in a spin, Jezebel has a much more detailed version of the article.

2014-07-14 11:25:23 PM
I love Jezebel's take on this

And why would someone lie about being sexually assaulted? What could be gained from that? Nothing, really.

And apparently men shouldn't defend themselves from false rape accusations:

When it comes to defending an accused rapist, it's a classic move - and another high profile case that makes use of that strategy could intimidate victims from coming forward.

And looksy: calling for a boycott of his music.

No, Jezebel no hypocrisy here. Just some crazy ass dumb bimbos that want to be taken seriously but absolutely shouldn't.

Maybe it's just because I'm not using woman-logic, but how does pressing a fake rape claim for attention help in any way with her son's illness?

Not just douchebags. If I accuse you of robbing a bank when you can prove you were in another city at the time, the charges will never be laid. If I accuse you of rape when you can prove you weren't there, the cops are instructed to arrest you anyway. You're guilty until proven innocent, with no evidence other than one person's say so.

I know we're both metal heads, but I actually have a soft spot for Bright Eyes. I think it's because my girlfriend in 2001 was obsessed with them. So it's mostly the nostalgia, but I think they're actually pretty talented. Oberst's work with Monsters of Folk (supergroup with him, the dude from My Morning Jacket, and the dude from She and Him) is pretty good as well.

/I just googled "Conner Oberst" to check the spelling and it autofilled "Conner Oberst rapist."

Well, that's a bit of a harsh way to say it, but I was going to say essentially the same thing (without the "coont" or "dumb, evil slag" parts, even though I cannot disagree with them).

I believe that anyone who makes a false accusation of rape or sexual misconduct should be punished in EXACTLY the same way, with the same sentence and social stigma (including being put on the sex offender's registry) as the accused would have gotten for the crime they were falsely accused of.

You cannot tell me that falsely accusing a man of rape isn't itself a sex crime. She should be prosecuted. She should have to introduce herself when she moves into a new neighborhood because  she is a sex offender.

There needs to be consequences for these accusations without any truth to them.

It's got nothing to do with "woman logic" per se because logic doesn't play into it.  Humans can get really weird under stress.

I'm not aware of any studies that have a firm theory why females do this sort of thing more than males, but one idea is that women are brought up in western culture to actively seek sympathy when they're distressed (men are taught to shoot things or drink themselves to death, I guess).  Woman are massively more likely to have Munchausen by Proxy and unprovable medical illnesses (e.g. fibromyalgia) too.

It's sort of the grown up version of bursting into tears to get mummy to come running.  They want to be soothed and cuddled and pampered and reassured, and this is the stupid way it's occurred to them to go about it.  People who do this tend to have had crappy parents themselves or have no support network and don't know any positive ways to get the attention they need.

Which is no excuse, fark this coont for making it harder for actual victims of sexual crimes (especially by famous people) to be taken seriously.  Take her kid off her permanently and throw her in a psych ward.

/It wouldn't surprise me if this woman has Borderline Personality Disorder

Nix Nightbird:

Yes I can.

No sex occurred, nor was there any danger of imminent nonconsensual sex. Therefore, it is not a sex crime.

Maliciously false rape accusations should still be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but they are not sex crimes.
