"The objects were destroyed after the contents of the bag could not be determined, other than the fact that it was a "gel-like" substance. "

Bleeping idiots could have dispersed a horrible disease into the atmosphere. Really, if you don't know what it is, find out BEFORE you "destroy" it.

It's very bad to blow up Jobu's chicken head in a ceramic bowl.
Very bad

I'm just waiting for someone to fill a box with ebola tainted blood or some shiat, write "this is not a bomb" on it, drop it off on the corner of a large city, and then just wait for the cops to come along and blow it up for them.

I've been told it's only dangerous if you have more than 2 ounces.

Give me half of what it costs the bomb squad to do this per year and I'll walk over to any object they want me to and open it the fark up because it's pretty much never an actual bomb.

That's true. Spores, on the other hand...

And if Ebola was caused by a spore, we would worry. However, it is caused by a filovirus.

Do they test if the unidentified device or substance is radioactive before blowing it up? I hope they do because radioactive dust is not too great when breathed in.

Well, there's a time and place...

I worked once as security at an office which housed, among other things, the OC Sheriff Dept's fingerprint department, and which was right next door to Norwalk courthouse and the Records Office. But we were just an office building with private security.

Not too long after 9/11, some idiot walked in from the parking lot, swinging a gym bag, plopped it on our desk in the security office, and said, "Hey, I found this kind of half-pushed under my car. I thought I should have brought it to security. Should I be worried about it?"

My supervisor and I looked at each other, gulped, and said, "Well, not ANYMORE..." and suggested gently that the next time they found a bag under their car which wasn't theirs, they come tell us BEFORE they moved it and not afterwards, so one of us could come out and evaluate it. I mean, I'd likely have taken a look and just moved it myself; but depending where it was, maybe not.
