O NOES! THE PLEBEIANS LIKE STUFF THAT SUBBY DOESN'T! WE ALL DESERVE TO DIE!!!

FFS, lighten up. If people drinking Folgers instead of Kopi Luwak is the biggest of your concerns, then you must have it real easy, my friend. Find something worthwhile to get poutraged over...

Recently saw a British documentary with Simon Reeves where he went to Vietnam because that's where most of the Nescafe' instant they drink comes from.  It's a cash crop in Vietnam even though they grow low quality coffee beans. The obvious issue is that they don't rotate the crops and the soil is getting used up rapidly but there isn't much virgin jungle left for new cultivation.

We are here at Fark.com, where we've secretly replaced the fine coffee they usually serve with Folgers Crystals. Let's see if anybody gives a damn.

Coffee doesn't have taste, it has flavor.  It could have a taste, but it can't have taste.

Nescafé is popular all over Latin America and so is good coffee. You are allowed to enjoy both.

I remember instant coffee being horrible when I was younger, but when I didn't have any grounds last week I remembered having a few individual serving packets of Folgers crystals I acquired somewhere a few months back.

I had to double up on them (2 packets, 1 cup), but it wasn't bad.  I don't see myself switching any time, but if I hadn't known, I would have just thought it wasn't particularly great real coffee.

Got an old jar of Maxwell House instant hidden away in my cupboard, gathering dust. I used it once a few summers back to make iced coffee. Drinking it AS coffee however is just...awful.

If people like instant coffee then good for them.  No, seriously.  Good for them.  People should eat and drink what they like.

It's also big all over SE Asia. Even the high-end hotels have Nescafe instant coffee packets in the rooms, while in the US, mid-range hotels have those nasty coffee makers with the one-shot packets of coffee.

I don't drink coffee (never acquired a taste for it) but I would much rather have a packet of instant than drink something that ran through a machine that hasn't been cleaned in four years.

if you drink coffee for anything other than the convenient way to get caffeine.... you are a liar.

so who cares if its instant or not?

I find it a little hard to believe that 50% of the world's population has ANY opinion on farking coffee!

I'm not fussy about coffee, but the only time I haul out the instant is when there's a power outage when I get up.

I'm torn between

"Lighten up, Francis"

and

"I am only saying this because I care - there are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market today that are just as tasty as the real thing."

Works great when you don't have old strong coffee available for baking black magic cakes too.

For a time, I had my own small business making high-end artisan truffles (the chocolate kind, not the fungus kind).

Anyway, I experimented extensively with the mocha truffle, using all different kinds of beans, different roasts, different grinding and brewing methods, to get the coffee produced juuust right as a complement to the chocolate ganache it was flavoring.

One day at the store I found myself staring at a jar of instant coffee and the mad scientist in me said, 'why not try it?'.

In blind taste tests, all of my tasters unanimously preferred the ganache flavored with instant coffee.

Fifty percent of the world lives in undeveloped wastelands without running water, and crap out in the open fending off lions, tigers, wildebeests and the furious ghosts of their ancestors with one hand while wiping with the other.  I don't believe they can be considered connoisseurs of fine taste.

And I don't even drink coffee.

During the last coffee shortage, you could buy instant coffee with chicory in it. Stuff wasn't bad.

Chicory can be used as a coffee substitute anyway

Yeah, I drink instant coffee. It costs around five cents per cup, there's practically no cleanup or prep, you don't need expensive equipment to make it, etc., etc. And the results are very consistent. If (like me) you're the only coffee drinker in the house, and (like me) you're cheap and lazy, instant coffee might just be for you.

I just drink whatever's readily available. As someone who can drink up to 12 cups throughout a day, I'm not going to scoff at Folger's when you can buy buckets of it at Sam's Club for cheap. In a perfect world, I would support my local coffee roasters and grind my own beans, but those nickels and extra few minutes can be better spent on other things. Namely sleep or food for my children.

Never hurts to stir a few spoons of instant coffee into your real coffee to give it some extra kick.  Snorting that crap burns like tarnation!

Civet coffee.  That is all.
