That article was impressively useless.  It's just a glossary of terms.  Where are the recipes?  The instructions?  Come on now!

The best 80's Japanese movie about a cowboy trucker and Watanabe Ken having sex with live shrimp you'll ever see.

I love how for each of the styles available they provide the Japanese name for it except for Fish Cakes.

Author probably likes Fruits Basket or some non-sense.

In fairness, it is one of my favorite movies of all time. It is the movie that introduced me to Juzo Itami, and he is one of my favorite directors, period. It is absolutely a wonderful film, for dozens of reasons, and it is one of the best films to capture the relationship that people form with food and other people. It is absolutely brilliant. And it gives an appreciation for ramen like nothing else too.

To make noodles? Yup. It's a complicated process, and it takes a while to master. To make the broth? That takes a while to master. To understand the many styles? That takes years. Ramen in THIS country usually means "grab a back of dried noodles and boil water" but ramen as a street food is a process that takes a lot of patience and ability. Ramen, here, is about as closely related to the authentic dish as Chef Boyardee is to a proper Bolognese with hand made ravioli.

If even.

American instant ramen is chef boyardee to asian instant ramen. Don't believe me? Go to ANY asian grocer near you and pick up some instant ramen with Japanese or Korean writing on the label. It's over $1 per pack for a damn good reason.

And fresh made ramen from a bowl? It's not even the same family of food as the instant stuff.

doglover: Good ramen recipes are secret, but here's the basics

Is it wrong I saw "Cooking with Dog" and wanted something completely different from what was presented?

It may be more than boiling water, but that doesn't mean it can't be horribly botched. One of my old roommates burned ramen.

Burned. M*therf*cking. Ramen.

As in, smoke throughout the kitchen, fire alarm going off, all that shiat.

You see, that little noodle brick you get? It fits in a bowl very nicely. The bowl, with the ramen brick, likewise fits in a microwave very nicely. You would consider this a way to speed up the boiling-water aspect of making the soup, I'm sure. And so would I.

Except, you have to put water in the bowl for that to work.

Dumb m*therf*cker put a ramen brick in a ceramic bowl, dry, and set it to cook for 5 minutes.

Farkin' this. That other fancy ass pic above thread? Whatever it is, it looks like way too much work just for noodle soup with a couple of accessories.

You ramen snobs are veering into bbq snob territory.
