By these powers combined we will still not a have a real chocolate bar to offer you.

2014-07-13 06:53:30 PM
It can only be an improvement.

Russel Stover makes perhaps the only chocolate in the US worse than Hershey.

2014-07-13 07:14:13 PM
Now that is the power of brand recognition, ladies and gentlemen.  A European producer of upper-scale (but still mainstream) chocolates globally is going to pay almost one and a half billion dollars for the producer of the most God awful chocolate shaped turds in a box because that's what US consumers buy.

Also, I had no idea Russel Stover has brick and mortar stores:

fm.cnbc.com

It is a temple of evil and it must be destroyed.

Lindt chocolate is awesome. Full stop. Their Lindor truffle bars are a gateway drug.

Lindt makes my favorite chocolate, hands down.  I loved their peanut butter truffles, though I can't find them around any more.

This. On my last international trip they had the 300gr bars on sale. I crossed customs with about 2.5kg of chocolate...

/I have a problem...

add some Larks vomit to it

Lindt and Russell Stover are of the same ilk on opposite sides of the pond. They both make chocolate flavored milk wax drops.

Lindt 86% cacao.

pure win.

When talking hershey products, the only solid one is a mr. goodbar, and the little special darks are alright I guess.

The only thing I have to say about russel stovers, is I once thought as a healthier option i would try their sugar free ones;  They gave me the most destructive gas and poo in human existence.

I found a few local chocolatiers (one of which you can actually look past the counter and watch them making confections).

Pricey ... but worth it.

// habanero truffle, that is all.

Downgrade.

Ah Russell Stover, the finest chocolates that you can pick up at your local 24 hour grocer's florist section, or the corner Walgreens.

2014-07-13 09:59:29 PM
Lindt is great, and makes exotic flavours that I will actually try.

Sweet!

Their dark chocolate with sea salt bars are solid cocaine.

You's trollin'.

You can count the ingredients of a Lindt solid dark chocolate bar on one hand: Chocolate, sugar, cocoa butter, lecithin, vanilla beans.  Lindt makes their own chocolate and it is good quality.  I agree that the Lindor truffles (most of which are sold in the US) and flavored bars are not on par.

Russell Stover buys artificially flavored chocolate from the lowest bidder and shapes it into rabbits and gnomes.  It goes downhill from there.

I drive by the Wards' mansion on the way home from work. They're always blocking off Ward Parkway when a GOP presidential nominee is in KC for a fundraiser. Will this stop once they get out of the candy game? or will it get worse when have fresh boatloads of cash to play with?
/anyway, I only buy boxes of bloopers from their factory store. (ugly candy pulled from the conveyor belt, Lucy style.)

Russel Stover is fine, but they need to stop putting those damn "fruit cremes" in assortments. Nobody wants them except for 80+ year old retirees who haven't had working tastebuds in decades.

While we are talking candy companies... Palmer is the anti-christ of candy companies, with their "chocolate flavored candies" that amounts to ear wax supplemented by something that tastes vaguely like chocolate, but results in 10 times the likelihood of getting the squirts and twice the calories.

I'd give a kidney for either a Fannie May Trinidad or a Frango mint meltaway right now.

Was it the wax drops? Too far?

2014-07-13 11:08:15 PM
Russell Stover is the "poor man's" chocolate. Tastes like the re-meltedthe chocolates that didn't sell at Halloween, to make them for Easter, and vice-versa.   Life is too short for crappy chocolate.

2014-07-13 11:27:16 PM

exparrot: Fannie May Trinidad

When I discovered they came in small hockey-puck or (around easter) large egg size instead of "large gumball", my world changed.

$1.4 billion?

Really?

That sounds like too much.  People love them some old arse chocolates, I guess,

The merged company is expected to soon begin selling Kafka's Samplers.

Good luck deciphering the map to figure out which chocolate is which.

The Lindt store at the Mall of America is one of the best reasons to go to that godforsaken labyrinth.

2014-07-14 07:02:36 AM
Maybe Lindt can grant my wish and make a Roman nougat & molasses chew only box of Stovers.

2014-07-14 07:40:41 AM
I know a few that work at one of their Texas plants and MacDonalds or Whataburger offer better benefits and stability. I don't know why people put up with conditions like that.

I think (not sure tho) the main factory for Russell Stover is in Corsicana Texas.. I have been to the store attached quite a few times (my father would buy them out of Sugar free items)...I always bought the bags of rejects (the ones that came out of assembly wrong)... those were fantastic, much different than the perfect ones sold in stores...

Love See's more (there is a store in my mall, have to stay far away from that hallway)
