Magnus: Mark Ratner: namatad: Mark Ratner: I wonder where the Taliban get their "wads of cash" from? Mmmmm, let me think....

that was the warlords
the taliban shut down opium in afghanistan, why else did we go in?

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm no expert by any means, but I thought that's how they made money? So, where do their wads of cash come from? How are they funded?

Namatad is wrong.    https://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/press/releases/2008-11-27.html. But, Opium is not their only source of income, just primary.

However this is Pakistan Taliban which is a marginally different group and their source of income is obscured but is most likely from a combination of opium smuggling, arms dealing with Afghanistan Taliban and other services to terrorist groups, and sources indirectly arrived at from the ISI.

yes no sort of ...

and not sure there is a real difference between afghan and pakistan when it comes to taliban, they cross the border when either side leans on them. In the end, that whole area is just one nightmare.

I know that originally, the taliban shut down opium in afghanistan, taking the money away from the warlords. and the heads.

Indeed.

And the irony is that they forbade the produce of opium before being displaced.

So, those feared freedom-fighters really are a bunch of mamma-boys that kill for fun and loot and pillage, all the while keeping up a big appearance of strict religious observance? Color me shocked! Next thing you know, it'll be revealed that these free-range psychopaths live sexually utterly depraved lives as well!

"They used to prefer foreign or branded perfumes and imported body sprays. They liked the ones with a strong scent."

/They needed the stronger stuff to cover up the reek of camel poon juice and little boy ass off their clothes.
