(Talking Points Memo)   You know those "Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend's wife for president" bumper stickers the VA GOP disavowed all responsibility for? Well for something they had absolutely nothing to do with, they certainly have lots of them to give out at their HQ   (talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 198

I can guarantee you that the State Party did not distribute those.  Absolutely.  They're right when they say it's an amateur effort.   They will not, however, discourage their distribution by GOP offices.  How can they possibly control what an individual LD office does?

It's kind of like the Catholic Church - the Vatican is in charge, until something terrible happens and then it's all the fault of the local diocese.

2014-07-12 06:17:56 PM
It's not a terrible strategy; I still can't go a full day without six or seven conversations about how horrible it was for Bill Clinton to get a BJ. The Republicans would do well to tap into this ongoing national rage which definitely exists.

Republicans have been lying since the Great Depression. Why should today's bumper sticker story be any different than normal?

Shoe on the other foot Dems would do the same. It's funny. Get over it.

"That statement wasn't intended to be factual."

It's not a lie unless a libby Dem says it. Then it's an outrage.

This is just one of those funny things that mean-spirited and stupid people laugh at. Why wouldn't they disavow it? It's not like they give half a shiat about the truth ever anyway.

2014-07-12 09:32:09 PM
This must rate pretty high on the outrage meter. I can still see the other link about these bumper stickers when I maximize my window.

The Republicans are decades behind everyone else? What a shock.

Republicans: Making the same arguments about alternative energy since the 70s, the same arguments about LGBT people and AIDS since the 80s, and the same arguments about global warming since the 90s.

Aaaannnddd I'm pretty sure we're done here. You have to be pretty farking naïve (also spelled "stupid") to believe this sort of backhanded insult would convince anyone not already a member of the GOP Core to "not" vote for Hillary in 2016. OTOH, it might just be one of those secret Masonic Temple handshakes by which like minded VA voters can signal to each other that they are out there and active.

Yep, that'll teach them libtards.

/drinking cheap beer...might not make sense

Too bad there were no "tax-evading Mexican plutocrat with magical underwear for president" bumper stickers available back in 2012.

I would surely have liked to affix one to the bumper of my liberal and very gay Prius.

You know, while mocking her for her husband's actions 15 years ago is important, shouldn't we be more concerned with how she murdered Vince Foster and how she laughed as she told the military to stand down, thus ensuring the death of Ambassador Stevens?

They got some American Online jokes to go with that?

To be honest, *cringe* I actually thought it was kind of funny *hide*

In a sort of cheap and tacky way, yes, but to me the whole Lewinsky thing is far enough in the past that it's not really much of a scandal - and if the Republicans really, REALLY want to call attention to the way they handled that whole thing, well, by all means, go right ahead and have fun with that. It just doesn't feel like a threat.

It's like circulating bumper stickers saying "The husband of Mike Douglas's killer for President" or "The ex-husband of that guy who played Angela on Falcon Crest for President." It's a petty way of looking at things that's only going to hurt the person circulating it.

2014-07-12 09:55:13 PM
The GOP needs to hire a better gag writer.

I think Hilary should print some of those up herself.  It would show she has a sense of humor and that she isn't afraid of the past.

Bill would probably love it too.  People are more accepting of these things than the conservatives can imagine.

It's more original a joke than most conservative humor.  I'll give them that.

Honestly, who the hell cares?

The spokesperson told the Washington Post that the stickers were "an amateur effort"

Yeah they are... That's some Microsoft Publisher level of graphic design work, there... I think the idea's kinda funny, but these things look like crap. Be funny if it backfired on them and all of the Hillary supporters started sporting them on their bumpers.

The man told her he was out campaigning for the Republican Party, and that he was diabetic and needed insulin, she said. Worried about the man's condition, Donoghue drove him back to the county Republican Party headquarters.

Diabetic campaigns for platform to deny others insurance and coverage for preexisting conditions.
