strange, there are studies showing that exercise increases brain cell growth ...
that sounds like CAUSAL, not correlation

FTFA:  New Michigan State University research shows that students who were members of the recreational sports and fitness centers on MSU's campus during their freshman and sophomore years had higher GPAs than those who weren't.

It's called farking discipline.  The thing that lets you stick to an exercise routine when most of us say we want to, but find it too much of a pain to get off the couch is the same thing that lets lets you stick to a study schedule when the rest of us lose willpower and end up surfing the web or playing games.  I can't believe they had an entire study on this.

I'd reply with a long winded, and probably pointless, rebuttal to this but I have to be at the gym in 26 minutes.

There are actually lots of studies out there showing that physical activity improves brain function.

Ha! Doesn't explain me! Plenty of physical activity! And still half umm... potato!

They probably could have also shown that those with the highest GPAs spend comparatively little time in the gym and students at Michigan State University spend more time in the gym than Harvard students.

this, but also, exercise is good for stress and anxiety both of which are a drag on academic performance. Exercise also helps you sleep better and increases endurance both of which are a boost to academic performance

Or maybe it has something to do with the students that spend their freshman semester drunk never go to the campus gym AND wind up with extremely low GPAs.

It is well-known that physical exercise helps in many areas of your wellbeing. I don't like being sore from working out, but I feel great when I get done. I might be in one of the worst parts of the world, but after a good workout it doesn't seem to matter as much. It's 105 degrees outside, but I don't care, I had a good workout.

Your mom is highly correlated with having sex, and you, if you are an only child, are the perfect birth control.

There was one study, you, that suggests your mom has sex.  You don't have any siblings.  Since we know 1. your mom likes sex, 2. sex makes babies, 3. she had no more babies, this suggests you exert an anti-conception field or force over your mother, or at least ruined her baby factory.  Now it's time for some experiments to confirm the study.

Working out boosts your energy levels, your metabolism, and your self confidence when you look in the mirror at all them gain's you've made.

Hell yeah, man. The days I don't work out are days where I can tell I'm a little more sluggish and a little less on my toes. When you're working out your body puts more positive neurochemicals out, your metabolism goes up, you just feel better, and all that anxiety and stress went out when you started makin 'dem gains. YOU LOOKIN TO BUILD SOME GPA?!

Well, maybe.

Could it be that people who exercise regularly have a daily routine that they follow and going to the gym falls into that daily routine along with studying and going to class. People who have a set daily routine tend to be more successful in their endeavors than people who don't.

nerds, go to the gym.

more hot people to see that you won't likely be with...
but at least you'll see them (in tight sweaty outfits) and get some exercise as a bonus
(or vice versa...exercise and see hotness as a bonus).

hint: don't stare...remember to breathe.

Remember, if you want to keep using your mind for a long time...you have to be alive first.
Keep healthy.

Alternative hypothesis to the direct benefits of exercise is the gifted tend to be active.

Fark you, subtard.

Do you even lift, bro?

Two alternate hypotheses:

-Poor/underprivileged people need to work.  Rich/privileged people have free time to do things like go to the gym.
-Jocks go to the gym and have blow off majors like communications.  Nerds have real majors and classes that grade on an actual curve.

I started working out about a year and a half ago on doctors orders and one of the many benefits I have experienced has been more clarity of thought and quality of ideas.

Maybe Subby should stop being a fatty and go to the gym so they are not such an idiotic asshole.

namatad: strange, there are studies showing that exercise increases brain cell growth ...

'Sounds like CAUSAL' is a world apart from 'is actually causal'....

This study, wasn't really a study as much as it was a survey.  And the survey found a correlation between going to the gym and GPA.  It doesn't even attempt to show that going to the gym causes an increase in GPA.

Another study that shows exercise causes increased brain cell growth, assuming it's true, still doesn't mean that going to the gym will result in an increase GPA.  GPA is not a measure of how much brain cell growth you have.  It's also not a measure of how smart someone is.  Even if we take a giant leap of faith and say that working out will improve your brain function, in a meaningful way, we still can't say that it will improve someone's GPA.  Being smart doesn't cause a high GPA.

So if you are really smart it doesn`t matter, you`ll just get good grades.

If you are average then extra discipline helps improve your grades (up to a point).

If you are stupid nothing helps.

I've been working out for most of my life and what is this "gym" stuff? Have any of you ever heard of this place, it's called "outdoors"--it's a nice place. Good for your head. You can move around in it, as much as you like, most directions.

Well duh, gym is an easy A class.
