"HE has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance."

200+ years ago people went to war with England over stuff like this.

Vodka and prune juice? I remember Rip taylor calling rum and prune juice a "Rum runner."

At least the cops finally found people they might be able to handle in 1-on-1 fights.  Maybe.

You're right, the people of Indiana should rise up against their state oppressors and their oppressive state liquor laws.

Was it just me, or was that a horribly repetitive article? How many times were we reminded that the residents could still drink alcohol at the social hour, so long as they brought their own?

By the way, the residents are allowed to bring their own alcohol to the social hour.

/BYOB social hour
//to my future children: if and when I require assisted living, make it somewhere that will serve me booze, not somewhere like this place where they only provide punch and snacks and root beer floats but no alcohol and if I want alcohol I have to bring my own

Anyone with common sense can tell this is something that should be "overlooked". Not doing so is just assholism.

Why would common sense tell them to overlook this business and not others? If a business is giving out booze they need a license.

Probably because we used to have a thing called common sense in the country at one time.

Ah yes, the golden years back then when we had common sense in the country.  We all remember that. Those were good times.

I work weekends at an upscale independent living retirement community.  It was built in 1985 and got a liquor license when it opened that year.  It was the first one in Des Moines to have one and the only one to have one until about 8 years ago.

I've worked there for ten years an from some of the other staff who have been there longer, back in the 90s, there was some epic drinking that went on.  Even still, five years ago, a fist fight broke out during the Saturday night Wii bowling tournament when margaritas were served.

phamwaa: An "End Run".

/Now the nanny state has gone too far.

Silly old people tend to vote for politicians who champion "Blue Laws".
