Were they serving vodka & prune juice. And also, does that drink have a name? If not, I propose to call it Murder, She Shat.

Uh, why would fifty people need a permit? Wouldn't be easier to just get one for everybody?

Have you ever witnessed what a few dozen drunken seniors end up doing after happy hour pumped up full of wine and Lomotil?  Believe me these cops were doing you all a favour and maybe someday when you have to claim your beloved great grandmother's belongings you won't come across a pile of photos that'd melt the face off quagmire.

I'll sleep soundly tonight knowing the cops are out there keeping us safe.

FTFA: "Excise police Cpl. Travis Thickstun said facilities that want to serve alcohol must obtain a license. If a license is obtained, everyone serving alcohol would need a server's permit. "

Translation: Yeah, we need our payoffs to established rent-seeking entities.

A server's permit to check the IDs of people living in a retirement home? Somehow I don't think there's going to be many underage kids drinking there.

It's a farking retirement home, let 'em have all the booze they want, might be the only source of pleasure some of those people have left.

2014-07-12 06:49:03 PM
well duh, where else would you put "over 50" people?

2014-07-12 06:49:07 PM
How about a $10k fine or more and threat of prison for any driver delivering booze to a non licensed establishment.  Kind of like they have for mechanics that DOT a truck on the road when they shouldn't.

This is what excise police do.  It is the law enforcement side of the Alcohol and Tobacco commission.

It isn't like these officers would be out solving murders if they were not doing their current responsibilities that relate to liquor licensing and permitting businesses who want to serve liquor to patrons.

You are free to beg for an attorney
You can also beg for the worst attorney the state has for free

How about we just treat alcohol like any other beverage?  Then this won't be a farking issue, if it's legal for them to hand out root beer, it'll be legal for them to hand out farking beer.

This is stupid. A liquor license is to serve to the public. This place isn't open to the public, it's a retirement home.

They are told they are required to have a liquor license yet Indiana has no sanctioned license for this application.

Anyone with common sense can tell this is something that should be "overlooked". Not doing so is just assholism.

When I was a kid my mom was a nurse at a nursing home. They regularly served the old folks booze as long as it wasn't counter indicated because of their meds, or other health reasons. Then one day a baptist church opened in town and they started doing outreach at the nursing home. Soon thereafter there were visits by the Liquor Control Board, police, and the Ministry of Health. Turns out that this particular brand of baptists weren't big fans of drinking so they made it their mission to put a stop to it. Bets a similar thing happened here: Someone complained for the good of the elderly.

/Same group stopped Scouts Canada from starting a Venture troop in our town because it was co-ed
//Tried to get the school to stop letting us use the library after school to play D&D

Why would common sense tell them to overlook this business and not others? If a business is giving out booze they need a license.

Probably be considered a restaurant or social club (also not public places) for licensing purposes or they will be denied because they cannot be licenses to provide alcohol as part of their client services.
