Not to defend Trump, but Atlantic City has been in the doldrums for some time with the competition that other East Coast casinos have put on it, and overseas casinos as well. The town hasn't got the convention business that Vegas has, and without alternate revenue streams, it just can't continue the way it's been going.

I thought the same thing, but honestly, if subby is gonna bash Trump, I can appreciate him trotting out a well-turned invective, even if it isn't original.

Given how many times he has gone bankrupt and found more people who are willing to give him more investment money and loans I think he is an expert at separating fools from money. He just specializes in fleecing bankers and brokers.

What I don't get is why he is still held up as a successful businessman

It's so weird, isn't it? He's a colossal failure at pretty much everything he does and yet...

Given how many times he has gone bankrupt (while living high off the hog and protecting his own profits from his ventures)  and found (still managing to promote himself to the point that) more people who are willing to give him more investment money and loans I think he is an expert at separating fools from money (and turning otherwise intelligent people into fools). He just specializes in fleecing bankers and brokers (and desperate retirees who think he has a line on a gold mine).

Its obvious why he isheld up as a successful businessman, why people don't criticize him for not being an ethical businessman is the question.

And oddly enough, Jim Whelan's boss was just out the other day promoting the idea that building a casino in Jersey City would be good for Atlantic City.

Actually..gambling rises in bad times, and is greatest in the classes with least disposable income.

FYI: Trump casinos has nothing to do with Donald Trump and hasn't in years.
That being said, Trump Plaza was an absolute dump. I stayed with some friends there last year..oh my. The rooms were okay but everything else was absolutely filthy. Trump plaza has been on the deathwatch for some time now.

Is actually in a petty good location as opposed to the Showboat, which was way at the end of town. Someone will probably buy it.

Five minutes with a bio of the man and a pocket calculator will tell you that he has destroyed FAR more wealth than he has ever created. He is a con artist who has convinced the media that he is a businessman.

I read a long while back that Trump absolutely hated being called a short-fingered vulgarian, so it's a good thing to keep that tradition alive.  Perhaps someone will scratch it into his tombstone when his black heart finally gives out.

That is so 1950s thinking.  The casino/hotel/golf course pays a ridiculous amount of money for the right to use the Trump name every year, to a different company Trump owns.  So the "branding company" bleeds the casino/hotel/golf course dry, allowing them to go bankrupt while Trump himself as owner of the "branding company" is enriched.  THAT is 21st century capitalist thinking my friend.

True, but it is a casino. They should pretty much last until the building falls down and they re-open across the street.

The Trump casino is only the latest.  As noted in the article, the Atlantic Club closed this year, the Showboat closes next month, and the Revel is in bankruptcy court.  Another article stated that between all of them Atlantic City is losing 1/3 of its casinos and 1/4 of its workforce over the course of a single year.  Obviously Atlantic City has deeper problems than a poorly run Trump casino.

Here is what you need to know.  Trump gets wealthy and important investors early on. Then he gets everyday chumps like you and me later.  No matter if his company succeeds or fails, the important people get paid first and often.  They always make money dealing with Trump while we get left footing the bill.

My idea was at this point, paying those fees is sort of like paying Dracula for your anemia.

This is the fourth major casino in AC closing or going bankrupt this year. It's clear that the legalization of gambling in PA has killed AC. Hell, my grandmother, who lives in NJ, drives into PA to play slots rather than go down there. It's a shame - but AC will be like Camden or Patterson within 5 years.

Trump got tax cuts because he's a job creator.  Now that's he's a job killer he has to pay that back, right?

He is quite good at self promotion. He's a brand now, not a person.
And a loud-mouthed idiot with money.

I'm not worried about Trump buying the Bills, I really truly doubt the rest of the NFL owners will let him join their club, as I believe any change in ownership has to be approved by the other owners. Even Jerry Jones is less of a huckster than Trump is.
