Subby you don't fire up the barbeque to grill. You fire up the grill to grill. A barbeque cooker is not going to do the job. That being said any stone fruit is great grilled. Peaches, plums etc.

Why would anyone want hot watermelon? Watermelon is a cool and refreshing summer treat, not some hot steaming pile of fruit.

Grilling berries?

Because bananas and watermelons are both berries.

2014-07-12 11:11:02 AM
You grill the watermelon, cut it up, and put it in the fridge.  Much like roasting veggies, grilling watermelon intensifies the flavor.

Be aware grilled watermelon releases a lot of liquid, much more than you'd expect.  I left a trail of sticky water from the patio, through the family room, into the kitchen.  Big mess :(

Grilled watermelon is actually quite good. You don't grill it long, just long enough to get grill marks and caramelize some of the sugar. Cut it thick so the middle stays cold, which gives a nice contrast with the warm outside.

Pineapples, peaches and plums are also great grilled.

Never tried bananas, but may do so tonight.

I smoke my own peppers, then when I make salsa I smoke the tomatoes, onion, garlic etc long enough to get a nice smoke flavor. Currently have some nice four pepper habanero salsa in the fridge.

/and smoked cheese

If you have a spit it's the best way to cook a pineapple. The Barbeque Bible has a recipe for it.

Smoked cheese?  Hmm, sounds interesting.  What kind of cheeses?  Semi hard to hard cheeses like parm?  Can't go too soft, right?

Because bananas and watermelons are both berries.

A banana is a false berry.  So you're technically correct.  But it's not a berry in the everyday sense of the word.

The best way to grill a watermelon is to feed it to a cow, kill the cow, then grill some of the cow.

BBQ bananas was quite common when I was a kid. Cut a slit in them, put some chocolate in, wrap in tin foil then put on the grill until they've gone mushy, chocolaty gooey mess.

smoked cheese is awesome.

ukexpat: Grilled avocado is pretty good too.

And mushrooms, and sweet peppers, and corn, and asparagus, and eggplant, and zucchini in fact pretty much any vegetable. The trick is in the seasoning. I grill most veggies while the meat is resting. Then toss on the Dogs\Kielbasa\Polish. I use charcoal and soaked wood chips, none of that gas stuff because the whole point is to get some of that smoke into the food. Otherwise just cook it on the damn stove.
