You could take over Canada with a military-specced Humvee and a 4-propeller heliocopter.

The foundation hopes to raise $10 million from the auction to help build a military vehicle museum

So they're selling tanks so they can buy some tanks? In what universe does this plan make sense?

"Tech engineer puts huge collection of U.S. military battle tanks on sale"

How could a dead guy put up anything for sale?

Tech engineer

a Stanford University-trained engineer

Silicon Valley engineer Jacques Littlefield

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Littlefield

studying at Stanford University where he received his Bachelor's degree in 1971 and an MBA two years later. He worked for Hewlett Packard for five years as a manufacturing engineer before focusing solely on building his museum and restoration facility.

Yes, "technically" he's an engineer but what does this have to with the story? He didn't make his fortune there. He amassed this collection using his wealthy family's assets. I can't figure out the agenda here.

Dude had an extensive collection.

Some of the items still work and require a tax stamp.

Over 100 vehicles are up for auction, the 5 top dollar items should raise the 10 million needed. The rest will be padding to keep the museum running. Plus you have 100 less vehicle to store.

Its too bad that the collection is being broken up, and that some of the rarest vehicles are among the ones auctioned off.

I build armor models as a hobby, and photos of this guys collection have been a valuable source of reference images for me. I hope they go to owners who appreciate the irreplaceable history many of these represent.

By 4-propeller helicopter, you mean one of those little remote controlled ones, right?

I'd bet the expectation is that those sold would be 'loaned' to the museum - you know, like art.

Boy, oh boy. You guys with your Jungle Fever Jefferson-type egos. "Taking the Canadas would be only a matter of marching" was one of his great quotes, followed closely by "How the heck will anyone be able to tell I banged a black chick in two hundred years.``

I has a sad. I have heard about his collection and even have a few dozens of pics saved from these tanks. I can only hope that the vehicles will be bought by museums, because that's where they belong.

No.  They're selling some tanks to build a museum to house, maintain, and in some cases restore the pieces of the collection they intend to keep.

...and that's only about 1/10th of what there is. This guy spent an incredible amount of money on military stuff - I bet everybody in his family hates everything that begins with a 't' and ends with 'ank'.

There's a workshop in the museum and they did some incredible projects. This Panther from Poland spent 40 years in a swamp after it was blown up from the inside, which caused heavy damage to the hull and the turret. He bought it just before it was ready to be torched and turned into scrape metal, he spent about a million $$$ on it buying and making parts, and now it is in running order.
