Funny you should mention that. I was on the wrong end of that once for cutting through a farmers field and I learned my lesson right then and there. Sadly, today that method would put me in jail and the vandals would go free.

Yes, the little vandals have cost me over $1500 in the last year and a half, not to mention the lack of sleep and stress of dealing with this crap. Police are zero help unless I have hi-def 3D video complete with Michael Bay explosions and lens flare effects.

Had similar issues.. resolved with a Beckett ignition transformer and a stay- at- home neighbor with a remote control.... pants were pissed... problem is that you have to do the parents first, then the offspring... and gotta catch them when they are not in heat......

I've got a 50KV (current limited) neon sign transformer wired to the lock on the garage door just in case, but most of their dirty work is done from a distance with eggs, lemons, large rocks, bricks, etc. I love the extra button on the garage door remote that closes relay contacts. I use that to power the solid state relay that turns on and off the high voltage. I've only been bit once and yeah, it hurt. ;-)

410 w/ suppressor and birdshot....  actually , had rock throwing problems, the cops talked to the parents, the crap continued.. method A was utilized... no witnesses... 1st year in the house... no more problems since... and this is my neighborhood... been here 25 years and we have no crime at all in this area... won't be tolerated by anybody here...  cops park on the side streets during their lunch break and get speeders... new guy bought a house down the block, had a party with 3 grills going at the same time... 100+ people... no problems at all, great party, good music. wrapped it up around 9pm, and we all helped clean up the mess.... love this neighborhood......

Blueberry Buckle

You fell into the same trap I did - it still requires a log-in. The lovely blueberry cake is still beyond our grasp...

Story of my life recently.
I think I'll go eat worms.

I can log in to Cooks Illustrated. Hopefully this will work:

BLUEBERRY BUCKLE
MAKES ONE 9-INCH CAKE, SERVING 8 TO 10
A blueberry buckle is a blueberry coffeecake with a streusel topping. The batter will be extremely thick and heavy, and some effort will be required to spread it into the prepared cake pan. This buckle is best made with fresh blueberries, not frozen ones, which are too moist. If you'd like to serve the buckle as dessert, consider a vanilla ice cream or whipped cream accompaniment (see related recipe for Cream Cheese Whipped Cream). Leftovers can be wrapped in plastic and stored at room temperature for up to 2 days.
Streusel
1/2
cup unbleached all-purpose flour (2 1/2 ounces)
1/2cup packed light brown sugar (3 1/2 ounces)
2tablespoons granulated sugar
1/4teaspoon ground cinnamon
pinch table salt
4tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick), cut into 8 pieces, softened but still cool
Cake
1 1/2
cups unbleached all-purpose flour ( 7 1/2 ounces)
1 1/2teaspoons baking powder
10tablespoons unsalted butter (1 1/4 stick), softened but still cool
2/3cup granulated sugar (about 4 3/4 ounces)
1/2teaspoon table salt
1/2teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 1/2teaspoons vanilla extract
2large eggs, room temperature
4cups fresh blueberries (about 20 ounces), picked over
INSTRUCTIONS
For the streusel: In standing mixer fitted with flat beater, combine flour, sugars, cinnamon, and salt on low speed until well combined and no large brown sugar lumps remain, about 45 seconds. Add butter and mix on low until mixture resembles wet sand and no large butter pieces remain, about 2 1/2 minutes. Transfer streusel to small bowl and set aside.
For the cake: Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position; heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9-inch round cake pan with 2- inch sides with nonstick cooking spray, line bottom with parchment or waxed paper round, and spray round; dust pan with flour and knock out excess.
Whisk flour and baking powder in small bowl to combine; set aside. In standing mixer fitted with flat beater, cream butter, sugar, salt, and lemon zest at medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes; using rubber spatula, scrape down bowl. Beat in vanilla until combined, about 30 seconds. With mixer running at medium speed, add eggs one at a time; beat until partially incorporated, then scrape down bowl and continue to beat until fully incorporated (mixture will appear broken). With mixer running on low speed, gradually add flour mixture; beat until flour is almost fully incorporated, about 20 seconds. Disengage bowl from mixer; stir batter with rubber spatula, scraping bottom and sides of bowl, until no flour pockets remain and batter is homogenous; batter will be very heavy and thick. Using rubber spatula, gently fold in blueberries until evenly distributed.
Transfer batter to prepared pan; with rubber spatula, using a pushing motion, spread batter evenly to pan edges and smooth surface. Squeeze handful of streusel in hand to form large cohesive clump; break up clump with fingers and sprinkle streusel evenly over batter. Repeat with remaining streusel. Bake until deep golden brown and toothpick or wooden skewer inserted into center of cake comes out clean, about 55 minutes. Cool on wire rack 15 to 20 minutes (cake will fall slightly as it cools).
Run paring knife around sides of cake to loosen. Place upside-down plate (do not use plate or platter on which you plan to serve the cake) on top of cake pan; invert cake to remove from pan, lift off cake pan, then peel off and discard parchment. Re-invert cake onto serving platter. Cool until just warm or to room temperature, at least 1 hour. Cut into wedges and serve.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: yobbery: Biscuit is still traumatized.

What a traumatized Biscuit may look like.
[www.smugmug.com image 600x450]

Poor Biscuit! If you don't mind me asking, what should I expect price-wise for a cat bath/clip down? Do you get a bath with his haircut? What about nail trim? I ask because I am trying to be prepared and work on my budget for next month/see how hard I have to work this month. (hehe!) Gogh Beastie will be doing the "Trauma is teh secksay" pose himself then, because homeboy is having a spa day whether he likes it or not. He's not been taking care of himself and grooming like he used to, isn't just yelling at me when I try and bathe him - he gets MAD and tries to sincerely injure me - and because of his injury still healing up, won't even let me brush him. Mah boy has mats in his furs! Especially on his belleh. :'-(

I can't afford to take Gogh Beastie in to the groomer this month or I would. We had too many other things go south on us this month right from the start, not just cat drama, and strange and frightening as it sounds I'm the only one in the house still standing financially at this point. Gogh's mats aren't bad at all right now, but I don't want us to injure each other and I don't want them to get bad, so it needs to be done. If they were bad, I'd just tell my family "well, a lot of churches feed the poor and the homeless once a week, so we don't need to actually buy food if we pretend to be the right kind of Christian" and off to the Critter spa we'd go! Priorities, yo. :-)

[i.chzbgr.com image 500x500]
/wish my vet did that stuff, but they don't :-/

It varies. We currently use a mobile groomer. That costs $60 without a bath but it's nice because it's done in the driveway. Prior to that one of our vet's technicians did grooming on the side. She only wanted $25 without a bath.

My Wife does all nail trimming. When they see her get her reading glasses they run like Sherpa's at the door, but she eventually gets all of them.

Most shelters will trim for a small fee. Many do it free if you were selected adopted there.

yellowcat: Been lurking for a few weeks. Glad to see Sherpa is finally on his way. Vudutek, great to see you, hope you feel better and that the rest of chemo goes quickly.

Need kitty advice. Josephine was laying in the litter box a few weeks ago so we took her to the Vet. She didn't have an intestinal blockage, just lots of hair in her stomach & "matter" in her colon. Vet gave us a laxative to give her twice a day. She's done real well, poop-wise. I've been brushing her -- she's a short hair, but it's so fine and soft, easy to see how it gets all tangled up inside. Went back this morning for a follow-up X-Ray. Not as much hair as before, but still a little backed up. Vet talked to me about the need to get this under control because it can lead to Megacolon. He recommended adding Prozyme to their dry food. I feed them a Blue Buffalo Food, which they really like and he was ok with that food. Neither cat likes wet food, and they drink a lot of water. Anyone have any experience with Prozyme? They weren't too thrilled with a powder being sprinkled on their food, but they'll adapt.

A pic of the patient, in her favorite spot:

I don't know if it'd work for Josephine, but I had a cat that had an issue similar to megacolon, and prescription science diet food seemed to help a lot. I think it was called fiber response. Good luck!

2014-07-13 01:09:14 AM

sherpa18: Hai everbuddy!

Apologies to all for not calling/checking in earlier - I could not get to sleep last night trying to wind down from the drive, and then woke up later than planned with a sore back, arms, shoulders and neck from wrestling my vehicle for over nine hours. (For those of you who don't know all the details, I am driving a 17' truck - fully packed, I ended up taking furniture items I intended to discard - and dragging an auto transport trailer with my car on it behind).

This truck is a beast and I was hesitant to get back on the road in a sub-par condition - plus I had hoped to meet up with QJ at some point, but what with his doctor's appointment I would have ended up trying to drive straight through and that was not going to happen.

yobbery suggested I stay another day and feel better and try to relax before moving on, and after much BS'ing back and forth, I realized it was probably the right thing to do. I feel much better now, and will be able to move on tomorrow morning confident that I can handle the next part of my trip.

Thanks to all for caring about me, I and will try harder to keep up!

PS - I just wanna give a huge shout out to yobbery and his lovely wife AllMyKidsHaveFur - they are wonderful, welcoming and generous hosts, and have taken good care of your resident wandering sherpa, making me welcome in their home  :o)

However, whether or not they actually have any cats was in question for awhile. Stay tuned.....

Glad to hear you're doing ok on the road. Drive safely on the rest of your journey.

I have the little shaits on video and the cops do nothing. Being rural I would go with the rock salt in the 12 ga. Like I said upthread, I'm going with the paintball gun. Hurts like hell and leaves a mark for the cops and parents to see. The thing is, I could come to your neck of the woods and deal with the problem and go home the next day, nobody saw anything, nothing to investigate. Not so easy for either of us to do on our home turf.

Hope everyone here is doing well lately. I haven't had a lot of time to check in on Caturday, kitten season is keeping me running non stop. It's really bad again this year, too many cats, not enough room or money to take them all in. I wish everyone would just spay their cats and end this madness.

More challenges to add to it all, I was diagnosed as a diabetic a few weeks ago. On medication that makes me feel like crap. I felt better before I had to take it. It's not working. Trying to starve and avoid all the stuff I'm not supposed to it, isn't working. Ugh... not happy with this BS.

Big thank you to those of you who donated to Little Mews in memory of QJ's mom. It was so sweet of him to think of us at a time when he was mourning the loss of his mom. The donations helped with our huge vet bill.

New kittens arrived a couple days ago and sent off to foster, hopefully adopted soon. It's summer so the adoptions have slowed to a crawl but who can resist this cutie with definite tortitude!!

ArmednHammered: domari: ArmednHammered: lilyspad: Why? Do you haz some that needs to be ear-clipped???? :D

Yes, the little vandals have cost me over $1500 in the last year and a half, not to mention the lack of sleep and stress of dealing with this crap. Police are zero help unless I have hi-def 3D video complete with Michael Bay explosions and lens flare effects.
/maybe a tranquillizer dart and radio collar like they used on Wild Kingdom.
//at least I could find out where they live so I could sue the parents for damages.

Or I could hire these guys...

Good luck with that! We have had problems with the hellions around here since we moved to this rural ghetto. Cops are worthless, dealing with parents who claim that their spawn are innocent is a joke.

A strong trap would be perfect!

Sounds like a good idea. I can't stand the little punks.

Sounds a bit like "Strangers on a Train" meets Caturday.  This could wind up being a really good story, or a really good trial.

I'm sure we'd all alibi you.  Family and all that...
