Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad"
Jeff Daniels, "The Newsroom"
Jon Hamm, "Mad Men"
Woody Harrelson, "True Detective"
Matthew McConaughey, "True Detective"
Kevin Spacey, "House of Cards"

I don't watch House of Cards and Mad Men.  But damn, that's a tough decision.

Any one of them could beat almost anyone else in any other year.

Pretty cool that Treme finally got recognized.

How did Laverne Cox not snag a nomination? I mean, Kate Mulgrew all the way, but Laverne was the break out performer. They going on season 2 performances I guess? It's kind of hard to gauge the timelines with nominations.

I didn't know that Shameless was a comedy series, but William H. Macy does do a really good job.  I'm also hoping that someone from AHS: Coven wins something.

They have an odd definition of movie or miniseries...

That said Cranston and Paul should be odds on favorites.

I think it's still season one for this round of nominations. Mulgrew was just more prominent in the show. Next year it'd better be Crazy Eyes FTW.

True.

It looks like Rectify and The Americans received complete snubs, which is shocking. They may be the two best shows on TV right now. I mean, I watch and enjoy House of Cards and Downton Abbey, but no way are either superior shows.

would be happy with McConaughey

I dunno, "Tyrion in Jail" was pretty intense. I had to watch his scene with Oberyn (sp? The Prince of Dhorne with a headache) more than once, and I never do that.

See also: The Trial.

I recently watched the first season of Betas on Amazon and I thought it was better than Silicon Valley.

Agree I would have thought True Detective would have been considered a Mini-Series.  The good news is Billy Bob Thornton should win now that he doesn't have to go up against McConaughey.

She did.  "Guest Actress in a Comedy" or something like that for Episode 3 of the first season.

She submitted as a guest actress, as did Uzo Aduba and Natasha Lyonne.  They were all nominated.

Dinklage has his work cut out for him against Paul, but the three episodes from accusation to trial by combat were some of the best line delivery and acting that I have ever seen. Even the odious beetle killing cousin story added to the overall characterization of Tyrion and Dinklage delivered perfectly.

Now he's gone YOLO

We were never supposed to like Skyler.  The fact we all hate her so much is a testament to the writing and acting.

Paul's going to suffer because it feels like that show has been off the air for six years by now, but his freedom face at the end of the series was as strong as anything Dinklage did, and I thought he was fantastic.

I'm with you. I watched all of Silicon Valley over a sick weekend, and the only thing I took away from it was perhaps the world's greatest dick joke. Betas and HaCF are better, IMHO.

I'm hoping that Breaking Bad sweeps everything it can, but this might be the best list of drama candidates across the board in Emmy history. Each of those actors and actresses would've wiped the floor with the competition in the 90s.

I never understood why some people thought you were supposed to feel sympathetic towards her.  When you get right down to it she was just as awful as everyone else.

THANK YOU!!!!

The American's should get a lot more attention than it does:  Rhys and Russell are unbelievably good.  At least margo Martindale got it some recognition this year...but Russell's Russian spy acted circles around Danes and her quivering lip this year.

I think if the voters give it to Cranston over Matty Mac and Woody H, they'll give it to Paul over Dinklage.

I can only speak to Dinklage's performance first hand as I have yet to watch BB. I have heard great things about Paul's performance though and can understand why it might be a hard prediction.

Oymandias should win over The Children for writing though. The Children was pretty awful as season finales go. The Lion and The Rose would have been a better selection, but I "tinfoily" think that HBO doesn't want GRRM to get awards for their show. His episodes have been some of the best of the series, but none have been nominated. Baelor and Rains of Castamere were both nominated, but I would say that Blackwater was better than both and L&R is definitely better written than The Children.

No, it is a BBC America original that was not even produced by the UK side of the operation.

I think you're supposed to feel sort of sympathetic towards her because, while not a perfect person, she's still the victim of Walter's actions as much as anything else.  I think a lot of the negativity toward the Skyler character had less to do with what she was doing and more to do with the fact that she was trying to keep Walter from being a badass.
